Eltville
Eltville am Rhein (from ''Alta Villa'', Latin for "high estate, high town", corrupted to ''Eldeville'', ''Elfeld'' and later Eltville, ) is a town in the Rheingau-Taunus-Kreis in the ''Regierungsbezirk'' of Darmstadt in Hesse, Germany. It lies on the German Timber-Frame Road ('). Eltville is the biggest town in the Rheingau. It bears the nicknames ''Weinstadt'', ''Sektstadt'', ''Rosenstadt'' and since 2006 also ''Gutenbergstadt''. Some of Germany's most famous vineyards (Steinberg, Rauenthaler Baiken, Erbacher Marcobrunn) are found within Eltville's municipal limits. Erbach () is a ''Stadtteil'' in Eltville am Rhein, Hesse, Germany. It lies within the Rheingau (wine region), Rheingau German wine#Regions, wine region. Geography It is located West of Eltville, Erbach lies where Kissel stream (formerly called Eberbach) flows into the Rhine. History The settlement of Erbach was first recorded under the name “Ever Bach” in 1069 in the undated charters of Archbishop Siegfried (1060–1072). Archbishop Friedrich of Mainz (937-54) donated the St. Peter pin in Mainz to the church to Eltville with the tithe to Erbach. The name of the village was originally spelled like Bach Eberbach. It became known as Erbach in 1313. The name probably originated from the name of a monastery in the same district. During the 12th century the community became a separate district. Siege Of Eltville
The siege of Eltville (or battle of Eltville) in May 1349 was the military engagement by which Charles IV secured the throne of the Holy Roman Empire against his rival, Günther of Schwarzburg. It was the third time a disputed succession in the Empire had been decided by battle. Charles IV had been elected king in 1346 in opposition to the Emperor Louis IV, who died the following year. On 30 January 1349, Charles's opponents elected Günther king. The latter moved on Frankfurt, where he was crowned on 6 February. Charles then led a large army to the Rhine and encamped at Mainz. The sources do not provide details of his operations. Günther apparently ensconced himself in Eltville, which, according to Matthias von Neuenburg, was a fortified town with a castle (''oppidum cum castro''). Walluf is a municipality in the Rheingau-Taunus-Kreis in the ''Regierungsbezirk'' of Darmstadt in Hesse, Germany. With 5,581 residents in its 6.74 square kilometer area, it is the most densely populated community in the Rheingau-Taunus-Kreis. Kiedrich is a municipality in the Rheingau-Taunus-Kreis in the ''Regierungsbezirk'' of Darmstadt in Hesse, Germany. Geography Kiedrich lies in the Rheingau on the south slope of the Taunus, approximately 2 km north from the town of Eltville am Rhein and 3 km from the banks of the Rhine. Kiedrich borders on the community of Schlangenbad in the north, and on the town of Eltville in the east, south, and west. Heidesheim am Rhein is an ''Ortsbezirk'' (borough) of the town Ingelheim am Rhein in the Mainz-Bingen district in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. The German Timber-Frame Road (German: ''Deutsche Fachwerkstraße'') is a German tourist route leading from the river Elbe in the north to the Black Forest and Lake Constance in the south. Numerous cities and towns each with examples of the vernacular timber-framed houses traditional to the German states are situated along the road. The total length of the route is nearly . Ingelheim Am Rhein
Ingelheim (), officially Ingelheim am Rhein ( en, Ingelheim upon Rhine), is a town in the Mainz-Bingen district in the Rhineland-Palatinate state of Germany. The town sprawls along the Rhine's west bank. It has been Mainz-Bingen's district seat since 1996. From the later half of the 8th century, the Ingelheim Imperial Palace, which served emperors and kings as a lodging and a ruling seat until the 11th century, was to be found here.
