The name Elsmore is a corruption of Kronborg, Elsinore, where Shakespeare's play ''Hamlet'' was set. History The old town of Elsmore, which for several years was the center of attraction for the citizens of Elsmore Township, was located farther west, not far from Big Creek. On August 25, 1888, after the route of the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad, Missouri, Kansas & Texas R.R. from Kansas City, Missouri, Kansas City to Parsons, Kansas, Parsons had been definitely settled, N.L. Ard, J.L. Roberts, J.A. Nicholson, W.D. and H.W. Cox, and O.P. Mattson purchased where the present town of Elsmore stands, and platted the town. It soon became a popular trading center and shipping point for that section of the county, and in 1909 was incorporated. The origin of the name Savonburg is obscure. It was incorporated as a city in 1902. Its high school closed in 1946, then its grade school closed in the 1960s. Parsons is a city in Labette County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 9,600. It is the most populous city of Labette County, and the second-most populous city in the southeastern region of Kansas. It is home to Labette Community College and the Parsons State Hospital & Training Center. History Parsons was named after Levi Parsons, president of the Missouri-Kansas-Texas (Katy) Railroad.
