''Elsie'' is the debut studio album by The Horrible Crowes, a Gaslight Anthem side-project made up of Ian Perkins and Gaslight Anthem founder Brian Fallon. It was released on September 6, 2011, through SideOneDummy Records. Singles ''Elsies lead single, "Behold the Hurricane," was released July 19, 2011. Critical reception ''Elsie'' received mostly positive reviews from music critics. At Metacritic, the album has an average score of 76 out of 100, which indicates "generally favorable reviews" based on 15 reviews. Andrew Leahey of AllMusic rated the album four out of five stars with this comment: "Elsie functions best as a display of Fallon’s underused bottom register and acoustic songwriting skills, proving that slowing things down once in a while can still be a punk rock move." Elsie Refuge
The Elsie Refuge for women and children was a women's refuge set up in Glebe, Sydney in 1974. The project was the beginning of the NSW Women's Refuge Movement that responded to the needs of women and children escaping domestic violence by providing access to specialist accommodation and support services operating within a feminist framework. History A group of Women's Liberation activists, led by Anne Summers including Bessie Guthrie and Jennifer Dakers, squatted an abandoned property in Westmoreland Street, Glebe and set up the refuge in response to the lack of services & support available to women & children suffering from domestic violence. Initially, there was no support from governments, with the staff at the centre providing security with nothing more than a cricket bat. Searchlight Control Radar
Searchlight Control, SLC for short but nicknamed "Elsie", was a British Army VHF-band radar system that provided aiming guidance to an attached searchlight. By combining a searchlight with a radar, the radar did not have to be particularly accurate, it only had to be good enough to get the searchlight beam on the target. Once the target was lit, normal optical instruments could be used to guide the associated anti-aircraft artillery. This allowed the radar to be much smaller, simpler and less expensive than a system with enough accuracy to directly aim the guns, like the large and complex GL Mk. II radar. In 1943 the system was officially designated Radar, AA, No. 2, although this name is rarely used. C3A1 Mine
The C3A1 and C3A2 (collectively known as the Elsie) are Canadian minimum metal anti-personnel mines. The difference between them is very minor and hard to distinguish visually. Elsie mines were first deployed by Canada in 1962, by the United States in 1965 and by Japan in 1967. Appearance The mine resembles a short, stubby carrot in appearance. Generally, Elsie mines are either coloured black or khaki for use in desert environments. Elsie mines can easily be spray painted to blend in with an arctic or jungle scenario. The training version of the Elsie mine is coloured blue. Operation An Elsie mine has a small raised pressure plate on the top surface of the mine which is covered with a small pad of flock material. William Grey Walter (February 19, 1910 – May 6, 1977) was an American-born British neurophysiologist, cybernetician and robotician. Early life and education Walter was born in Kansas City, Missouri, United States, on 19 February 1910, the only child of Minerva Lucrezia (Margaret) Hardy (1879–1953), an American journalist and Karl Wilhelm Walter (1880–1965), a British journalist who was working on the Kansas City ''Star'' at the time. His parents had met and married in Italy, and during the First World War the family moved from to Britain. Walter's ancestry was German/British on his father's side, and American/British on his mother's side. He was brought to England in 1915, and educated at Westminster School with an interest in classics and science, and entered King's College, Cambridge, in 1928.
