Elliott Naishtat
Elliott Naishtat (born February 15, 1945) is an American Democratic politician. He is a former member of the Texas House of Representatives from the 49th District, having served from 1991 until January 2017. Considered a liberal legislator, Naishtat focused on having a positive effect on health and human services, particularly the needs of low- and moderate-income people. Early years Born in New York, Naishtat received his bachelor's degree in Political Science from Queens College in 1965. Volunteering with VISTA in Johnson's War on Poverty, he was sent to Eagle Pass, Texas, where he organized residents to improve streets and access to water, but as he observed later, "we didn't eliminate poverty." The American Cancer Society (ACS) is a nationwide voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer. The Gray Panthers are a series of multi-generational local advocacy networks in the United States which confront ageism and many other social justice issues. The organization was formed by Maggie Kuhn in response to her forced retirement from the Presbyterian Church at the age of 65 in 1970. The Gray Panthers are named in reference to the Black Panthers.
