Ellerslie Rugby Park
Ellerslie Rugby Park is a park located in South Edmonton in the neighborhood of Ellerslie. It was the Edmonton Gold's home field and it also held puts on many private events. There are two buildings on the site, the Banquet Room, and the Clubroom. It was opened in 1984 and closed in 2022. The Edmonton Gold were a Canadian rugby union team based in Edmonton, Alberta. The team played in the Rugby Canada Super League and drew most of its players from the Edmonton Rugby Union, one of fourteen Rugby Unions that have rep teams in the RCSL. The Rugby Canada Super League (RCSL or Super League) was a national, semi-professional rugby union competition in Canada. The league represented the second level of domestic rugby union in Canada, and the highest level wholly indigenous to Canada. Ellerslie, Edmonton
Ellerslie is a residential neighbourhood in southeast Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. While City of Edmonton documents note that there are diverse stories related to Scottish settlers introducing the name Ellerslie, it is known that the name was applied to the local school district by 1895, and to the local post office in 1896, when it was still a rural area many kilometers south of the early boundaries of the recently (1892) incorporated Town of Edmonton. The 2006 Women's Rugby World Cup (officially IRB Rugby World Cup 2006 Canada) took place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The tournament began on 31 August and ended on 17 September 2006. The 2006 tournament was the third World Cup approved by the IRB, the previous two being held 2002 in Spain and in the Netherlands, in 1998. The Black Ferns of New Zealand won the 2006 World Cup, defeating England in the final, as they had in 2002. It was New Zealand's third successive title.
