Ellenburg, New York
Ellenburg is a town in Clinton County, New York, United States. The population was 1,743 at the 2010 census. The town is named after the daughter of the principal proprietor. Ellenburg is on the western border of the county and is northwest of Plattsburgh. The southern part of the town is situated in the Adirondack Park. History The area was first settled around 1800. Ellenburg is named for Ellen Murray, the daughter of John R. Murray, a landowner. The town was formed from part of the town of Mooers in 1830. In 1845, part of the town was used to make the town of Clinton. During the Cold War, Ellenburg was the location of two of the twelve Atlas ICBM missile silos under the 556th Strategic Missile Squadron based out of the Plattsburgh Air Force Base. New York State Route 374
New York State Route 374 (NY 374) is a state highway in the North Country of New York in the United States. The route follows a generally northwest to southeast progression; however, the portion of the route within Franklin County runs north–south and is signed in the same manner. The western terminus of NY 374 is at a junction with U.S. Route 11 in the village of Chateaugay. Its eastern terminus is at an intersection with NY 22 north of the city of Plattsburgh. Most of the alignment of NY 374 is located in the Adirondack Park, heading along the shorelines of several large lakes in the northern part of the park, including the two Chateaugay Lakes and Chazy Lake. Franklin County is a county on the northern border of the U.S. state of New York. Chateaugay (town), New York
Chateaugay is a town in Franklin County, New York, United States. As of the 2010 census, the town population was 2,155. The name is derived from a location in France, which was applied to a local land grant. Within the town is a village also named Chateaugay. The town is located in the northeastern corner of the county. History The first settlement took place in 1796. The town was formed in 1799 before Franklin County was established, from parts of the towns of Champlain and Plattsburgh. By 1802, Chateaugay comprised most of Franklin County. Subsequently, its territory was reduced to form other towns. The town of Malone was set off from Chateaugay in 1805. Altona is a town in Clinton County, New York, United States. The population was 2,887 at the 2010 census. The town was named after the Altona, Hamburg, district of Germany (which was an independent Danish, later Prussian town at the time of foundation of Altona, NY). Plattsburgh Air Force Base
Plattsburgh Air Force Base is a former United States Air Force Strategic Air Command (SAC) base covering 3,447 acres (13.7 km²) in the extreme northeast corner of New York, located on the western shore of Lake Champlain opposite Burlington, Vermont, in the city of Plattsburgh, New York. The base closed on 25 September 1995, pursuant to the Defense Base Realignment and Closure Act of 1990 (10 U.S.C.
