Ella Junnila
Ella Juulia Junnila (born 6 December 1998) is a Finnish high jumper, who represents Tampereen Pyrintö. She has previously represented Janakkalan Jana and Vammalan seudun Voima. She represented Finland in 2018 European Athletics Championships in high jump and finished 17th with a result of 186 cm. She won a bronze medal at the 2019 European Athletics U23 Championships with a result of 192 cm. Junnila set a new Finnish record, 194 cm, on 11 June 2019 in Turku at the Paavo Nurmi Games. This earned her a place in the 2019 World Championships in Athletics for high jump. She improved the record by jumping 195 cm on 3 July 2019 in Tampere. She has qualified to represent Finland at the 2020 Summer Olympics. The women's high jump event at the 2020 Summer Olympics took place on 5 and 7 August 2021 at the Japan National Stadium. Even though 32 athletes qualified through the qualification system for the Games, only 31 took part in the competition. This was the 22nd appearance of the event, having appeared at every Olympics since women's athletics was introduced in 1928. Athletics at the 2020 Summer Olympics were held during the last ten days of the Games. They were due to be held from 31 July – 9 August 2020, at the Olympic Stadium in Tokyo, Japan. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the games were postponed to 2021, with the track and field events set for 30 July – 8 August. The sport of athletics at these Games was split into three distinct sets of events: track and field events, remaining in Tokyo, and road running events and racewalking events, moved to Sapporo. A total of 48 events were held, one more than in 2016, with the addition of a mixed relay event. 2019 World Athletics Championships – Women's High Jump
The women's high jump at the 2019 World Athletics Championships was held at the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha, Qatar, from 27 to 30 September 2019. Summary As might have been predictable, the six members of the female two metres club were the last six left in the competition at 2 metres. The newest member Karyna Demidik saved one attempt, but missed. First over was defending champion Mariya Lasitskene, who still had a clean round going. That was matched by Vashti Cunningham also maintaining a clean round. After two misses, returning silver medalist Yuliya Levchenko made it over. Returning bronze medalist Kamila Lićwinko was not so lucky and exited the competition. Next up newly tied U20 record holder Yaroslava Mahuchikh got over. The 2019 IAAF World Athletics Championships () was the seventeenth edition of the biennial, global athletics competition organised by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), since renamed World Athletics. It was held between 27 September and 6 October 2019 in Doha, Qatar, at the renovated multi-purpose Khalifa International Stadium, but reduced to 21,000 available seats. 1,772 athletes from 206 teams competed in 49 athletics events over the ten-day competition, comprising 24 events each for men and women, plus a mixed relay.
