Elizabeth Coggs
Elizabeth M. Coggs (born 1956; also known as Elizabeth Coggs-Jones and Beth) is a Wisconsin Democratic politician. She served on the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors as county supervisor for the 10th district from 1988-2010, and was from 2011-2012 a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly, succeeding Annette Polly Williams. Background Elizabeth Monette Coggs was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Coggs is a lifelong Milwaukee resident. Her father, Isaac Newton Coggs, was one of the third African-Americans elected to the State Assembly (in 1952) and the first African American elected to the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors (in 1964). Her mother, Marcia Priscilla Young Coggs, was the first African-American woman elected to assembly of the Wisconsin Legislature (in 1976). Wisconsin Assembly, District 10
The 10th Assembly District of Wisconsin is one of 99 districts in the Wisconsin State Assembly. Located in southeastern Wisconsin, the district is entirely contained within northeastern Milwaukee County. The district comprises several neighborhoods of the north side of the city of Milwaukee, including the Williamsburg Heights, Arlington Heights, and Grover Heights neighborhoods, as well as the neighboring village of Shorewood. The district is represented by Democrat Darrin Madison, since January 2023. WUWM (89.7 FM, "Milwaukee's NPR") is the flagship National Public Radio station in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It is owned and operated by the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee and licensed to the Board of Regents of the University of Wisconsin System. Nikiya Harris
Nikiya Q. Dodd, formerly Nikiya Harris (born February 22, 1975) is a Wisconsin educator and politician who formerly served as a County Supervisor of Milwaukee County, Wisconsin from 2010 through 2012, and as a Democratic member of the Wisconsin State Senate representing the 6th Senate district from 2013 to 2017. Spencer Coggs
G. Spencer Coggs (born August 6, 1949) is an American public administrator and Democratic politician. He is the current Milwaukee City Treasurer, since April 2012. He previously served 10 years in the Wisconsin State Senate and 20 years in the Wisconsin State Assembly, representing Milwaukee's west side. Wisconsin State Senate
The Wisconsin Senate is the upper house of the Wisconsin State Legislature. Together with the larger Wisconsin State Assembly they constitute the legislative branch of the state of Wisconsin. The powers of the Wisconsin Senate are modeled after those of the U.S. Senate. The Wisconsin Constitution ties the size of the State Senate to that of the Assembly, by limiting its size to no less than 1/4, nor more than 1/3, of the size of the Assembly.
