Eliza Ann Jewett
Eliza Ann Jewett (March 1779 – October 30, 1856) was an American real-estate investor. Several properties in Savannah, Georgia, where she was based, are now named for her. Her most active years were during the mid-19th century, when she was beyond the age of 70. After Mary Marshall, Jewett was the most prominent female property owner and developer in antebellum Savannah. Life and career Eliza Ann Cleary was born in March 1779 in North Carolina. In 1808, she married James H. Discombe, with whom she had four known children. One of them, Eliza Ann Bowles, married Francis Champion. In 1817, two years after Discombe's death, she married Jasper Jewett, with whom she had two children before his death in 1819. She was not an heiress and was not known to have inherited much wealth from her parents but, according to Roulhac Toledano, "She understood the value of real estate in Savannah during its golden age, between 1840 and the Civil War." Eliza Ann Jewett House
ELIZA is an early natural language processing computer program created from 1964 to 1966 at the MIT Artificial Intelligence Laboratory by Joseph Weizenbaum. Created to demonstrate the superficiality of communication between humans and machines, Eliza simulated conversation by using a " pattern matching" and substitution methodology that gave users an illusion of understanding on the part of the program, but had no built in framework for contextualizing events. Directives on how to interact were provided by "scripts", written originally in MAD-Slip, which allowed ELIZA to process user inputs and engage in discourse following the rules and directions of the script. The most famous script, DOCTOR, simulated a Rogerian psychotherapist (in particular, Carl Rogers, who was well known for simply parroting back at patients what they had just said), and used rules, dictated in the script, to respond with non-directional questions to user inputs. Joe Odom (attorney)
Joseph Algerine Odom (March 22, 1948 – November 2, 1991) was an American attorney who later became a musician. He came to prominence after his appearance as one of the main characters in John Berendt's true-crime book ''Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil'', although he died three years before its publication. Early life Odom was born in Claxton, Georgia, on March 22, 1948. He later moved to Savannah, where he was a "ne'er-do-well" attorney. Death Odom died on November 2, 1991, from complications of AIDS. He was 43, and was living at the time in an apartment inside Savannah's Hamilton–Turner Inn, which Nancy Hillis purchased in 1991. He is buried, in a family plot in Bull Creek Cemetery in his hometown of Claxton, beside his father, Herman (1921–1995), and mother, Gwendolyn (1920–2013). It is located in the fourth row of the city's five rows of squares, on Bull Street and Macon Street, and was laid out in 1837. It is south of Chippewa Square, west of Lafayette Square, north of Monterey Square and east of Pulaski Square. The square is named for James Madison, fourth president of the United States. Bull Street
Bull Street is a major street in Savannah, Georgia, United States. Named for Colonel William Bull (1683–1755), it runs from Bay Street in the north to Derenne Avenue (part of State Route 21) in the south. It is around 3.40 miles in length, not including the section interrupted by Forsyth Park. It is the center of a National Historic Landmark District. It is named for Major John Jones, an aide to brigadier general Lachlan McIntosh at the 1779 siege of Savannah during the American Revolutionary War. Jones street stretches just over , from West Boundary Street in the west to East Broad Street in the east. It lies near the center of the Savannah Historic District.
