Elitni Odredi
Elitni Odredi (Serbian Cyrillic: Елитни Одреди, English: ''Elite Units'') was a Serbian pop-rap duo from Belgrade, formed in 2005. They were composed of two rappers and long-time friends; Relja Popović and Vladimir Matović. Initially an underground hip-hop group, they reached mainstream success by switching to a more commercial and club-oriented sound. Elitni Odredi was also one of the first regional acts to use platforms such as Myspace and YouTube to promote their music, while generally avoiding media. They are recognised as one of the most successful and iconic regional acts of the early 2010s. History The group, initially named ''Ulični Pesnici Crew'' (''Street Poets Crew''), was formed by two classmates, Relja Popović and Vladimir Matović, in seventh grade. Rakia, Rakija, Rachiu or Raki (), is the collective term for fruit spirits (or fruit brandy) popular in the Balkans. The alcohol content of rakia is normally 40% ABV, but home-produced rakia can be stronger (typically 50%). Music of Serbia represents the music, musical heritage of Serbia, both historical and modern. Kafana
Kafana is a distinct type of local bistro (or tavern), common in former Yugoslav countries and Albania, which primarily serves alcoholic beverages and coffee, and often also light snacks (''meze'') and other food. Damir "Dado" Polumenta (born 29 August 1982) is a Montenegrin and Serbian pop-folk recording artist. Life and career Polumenta was born into a Muslim family in Bijelo Polje, in northern Montenegro. His uncle Šako Polumenta is also a singer. In 2008 they released a duet single "Ljepša od noći" (''More Beautiful Than Night'') on Šako's album '' Sanjao sam san...''. His first album, '' Jasmina'', released in 2001 through the label Best Records, found little success. Turbo-folk
Turbo-folk (sometimes referred as pop-folk or popular folk) is subgenre of contemporary pop music with its origins in Serbia, that initially developed during the 1980s and 1990s, with similar music styles in Bulgaria (chalga), Romania (manele) and Albania (tallava). It is a fusion genre of popular music, blending Serbian folk music with other genres: such as pop, rock, electronic and some hip-hop. Background and characteristics Turbo-folk music emerged as a subculture in the countryside during the 1970s before migrating to the city in the '80s and eventually reaching further expansion in the '90s during the rule of Slobodan Milošević, Yugoslav Wars, inflation and political isolation. Serbian diaspora refers to Serbian emigrant communities in the diaspora. The existence of a numerous diaspora of Serbian nationals is mainly a consequence of either economic or political (coercion or expulsion) reasons. Anabela Atijas (; ; born 26 January 1975), known mononymously as Anabela, is a Bosnian-Serbian pop singer. She launched her career in 1993 as a part of the duo Funky G, together with her former husband Gagi Đogani with whom she has a daughter Luna Djogani. Auto-Tune
Auto-Tune (or autotune) is an audio processor introduced in 1996 by American company Antares Audio Technologies. Auto-Tune uses a proprietary device to measure and alter pitch in vocal and instrumental music recording and performances. Auto-Tune was originally intended to disguise or correct off-key inaccuracies, allowing vocal tracks to be perfectly tuned despite originally being slightly off-pitch. The 1998 Cher song " Believe" popularized the technique of using Auto-Tune to distort vocals. In 2018, the music critic Simon Reynolds observed that Auto-Tune had "revolutionized popular music", calling its use for effects "the fad that just wouldn't fade.
