Elis Chiewitz
Elis Chiewitz (pronounced ''tje:vits''), born 13 April 1784 in Stockholm, died 24 June 1839 in Hammarlund, Åland, was a Swedish musician and artist. Biography Elis Chiewitz was the son of the court chapel violinist and Christina Elisabeth Runius. He was the brother of and the uncle of Georg Theodor Chiewitz. He studied music and already as a young cellist gave concerts, including at the court chapel. He began his art studies at the Swedish Academy of Fine Arts in 1801; despite encouragement and several medals he remained as a student as late as 1820. He participated several times in the academy's exhibitions with genre pictures, landscape and historical scenes in oils or watercolour. He is best known for his illustrations, especially for the two albums ''Gallery of Fredman's epistles'' in 1826 and ''Gallery of Fredman's songs'' in 1827 with figures from the named works of Sweden's bard, Carl Michael Bellman. ''Svensk uppslagsbok'' is a Swedish encyclopedia published between 1929 and 1955, in two editions. First edition The first edition was started in 1929 by ''Baltiska förlaget AB'', but publishing was taken over by ''Svensk uppslagsbok AB'' in 1931. This edition consisted of 30 volumes and one supplement volume, and was completed in 1937. The articles in ''Svensk uppslagsbok'' were written by subject matter experts and signed. On the market, it competed with ''Nordisk familjebok'' in its third, condensed edition (1923–1937), and it aimed at being affordable for a large audience. Fiskartorpet
Fiskartorpet is a recreational area north of Stockholm, Sweden. It is situated in the Djurgården area. It features a small hotel, a small conference center, and a number of restaurants. Sporting facilities include an ice hockey rink, a soccer field, and a K-47 ski jump. History King Charles XI of Sweden had a fishing cottage at Fiskartorpet during the 17th century, and the cottage still stands at its original location. The first ski jump at the site was built in the 1890s. In 1904, an even larger hill with towers was inaugurated after drawings by architect Gustaf Wickman (1858-1916). The first wooden structure of the tower was replaced in the 1930s. It had been designed by Gustaf Birch-Lindgren (1892-1969). It is one of the locations for ''Fredman's Epistles'', a collection of songs by Sweden's bard, Carl Michael Bellman. Fredman
Jean Fredman (born Johan Fredrik Fredman; 1712 or 1713 – 9 May 1767) was a famous figure in 18th century Stockholm. He was the son of the watchmaker Andreas Fredman from his first marriage. He later also became a watchmaker, after being his father's apprentice. In the year 1745 he married a wealthy widow named Katarina Lindberg. Between the husband and wife there took place a buzzed-about legal process as Fredman had embezzled his wife's money. In 1752, things started to go worse for Fredman as his wife died. This signalled the start of numerous events that would leave him poor and on the streets before his death on 6 May 1767. Jean Fredman is the key figure in Carl Michael Bellman's works from the 18th century, the ''Songs of Fredman'' and the ''Epistles of Fredman''. Bellman let Fredman be the supposed narrator of his songs and poems. Ulla Winblad
Ulla Winblad was a semi-fictional character in many of Carl Michael Bellman's musical works. She is at once an idealised rococo goddess and a tavern prostitute, and a key figure in Bellman's songs of ''Fredman's Epistles''. The character was partly inspired by Maria Kristina Kiellström (1744–1798). A dual character Edvard Matz, author of a book about Carl Michael Bellman's women, calls Ulla "one of the really great female figures in Swedish literature". Bellman's English biographer, Paul Britten Austin, summarizes Ulla's dual nature: : "''Ulla'' is at once a nymph of the taverns and a goddess of a rococo universe of graceful and hot imaginings".Britten Austin, 1967. Tjenare Mollberg, Hur är Det Fatt?
Tjenare Mollberg, hur är det fatt? (''Dear Mollberg, what happened?'') is No. 45 in the Swedish poet and performer Carl Michael Bellman's 1790 song collection, ''Fredman's Epistles''. The epistle is subtitled "''Till fader Mollberg rörande hans harpa, och tillika et slags ad notitiam at Mollberg led oskyldigt på Krogen Rostock''" (To father Mollberg concerning his harp, and further a sort of ''ad notitiam'' that Mollberg innocently suffered at the Rostock tavern); the song is sometimes known under this name. It describes a fight in a tavern that starts when Mollberg innocently plays a Polska on his harp, leading his audience to assume it was propaganda for Poland. Scholars have noted that the epistle is the clearest exception to the rule that Bellman avoided international politics.
