Eliphaz
Eliphaz ( "My Elohim is gold", Standard Hebrew Elifaz, Tiberian Hebrew ʾĔlîp̄az / ʾĔlîp̄āz) was the first-born son of Esau and his wife Adah. He had six sons, of whom Omar was the firstborn, and the others were Teman, Zepho, Gatam, Kenaz and finally Amalek, who was born to his concubine Timna. The people of Amalek were the ancestral enemy of the Israelite people (Book of Exodus ; Book of Deuteronomy ). The Midrash relates that when Jacob escaped from Esau and fled to his uncle Laban in Haran, Esau sent Eliphaz to pursue and kill Jacob, his uncle, who was his Rabbi also. When they met, Jacob implored Eliphaz not to kill him, but Eliphaz challenged that he had his father's instructions to fulfill. Jacob gave everything he had with him to Eliphaz and said, ”Take what I have, for a poor man is counted as dead." Eliphaz (Job)
Eliphaz ( ''’Ělīp̄āz'', " El is pure gold") is called a Temanite (). He is one of the friends or comforters of Job in the Book of Job in the Hebrew Bible. The first of the three visitors to Job (), he was said to have come from Teman, an important city of Edom (; . Thus Eliphaz appears as the representative of the wisdom of the Edomites, which, according to , , and , was famous in antiquity. As an alternative to the interpretation "El is pure gold", or "My God is pure gold", it has also been suggested that the name might mean something along the lines of "My God is separate" or "My God is remote". Eliphaz Dow
Eliphaz Dow (1705 – May 8, 1755) of Hampton Falls, New Hampshire was the first male executed in New Hampshire. (Two women had been executed in 1739). Eliphaz, the son of Joseph and Hannah Dow, was a shoemaker, married but with no known children. He was convicted of the murder of Peter Clough, also from Hampton Falls. It appeared, upon evidence, that a feud had subsisted between them for quite some time. On 12 December 1754, they accidentally met at the house of Eliphaz' brother Noah Dow. Clough accused Dow of maliciously killing one of his cows. They began to threaten each other, then Clough challenged Dow to go out of the house to fight. Dow was a slightly built man and not much of a fighter and Clough was intimidating man who was a local blacksmith. Clough went outside and Dow followed. Dow picked up his brother's hoe and struck Clough with a massive blow on the side of the head which instantly killed him. Trial and execution Dow was arrested on the same day of the crime. ... Eliphaz Fay
Eliphaz Fay (April 27, 1797 – March 19, 1854) served as the fourth president of Colby College (then called the Waterville College) in Maine. Personal life Fay was born to Solomon Fay, and Suzannah Morse, a schoolteacher in Marlborough, Massachusetts. Graduated from Brown University in 1821. He married Mary Helen (Lee) on April 20, 1829. His children were Susan Mary, William Wirt, Henry Harrison, Caroline Louise. Work Fay had a career as a lawyer. In 1832 he was the first principal of New Paltz Academy. From 1833-1834 he published ''The Independence'', a newspaper in Poughkeepsie, New York, which "advocate(d) the cause of Anti-Masonry, literature, science, temperance, morality and religion." Elifaz, Israel
Elifaz ( he, אֱלִיפַז) is a kibbutz in the Arava valley, near Eilat, in the far south of Israel. It is under the jurisdiction of the Hevel Eilot Regional Council. In it had a population of . History Elifaz was founded in January 1983 by a group of Nahal members from Jerusalem, Bat Yam, Haifa and Nahariya. The kibbutz is affiliated with the Kibbutz HaArtzi movement. The Eliphas Buffett House is a historic house located at 159 West Rogues Path in Cold Spring Harbor, Suffolk County, New York. Description and history It consists of a two-story, three-bay-wide main structure built in about 1835, with a one-story, three-bay-wide east wing built in about 1800. The 1835 main structure is representative of the Greek Revival style. It features two elongated decorative brick chimneys and gable dormers. It is a representative example of a large, upper-income single-family dwelling along Huntington's north shore.
