Elements (restaurant)
Elements is a New American fine dining restaurant located in Princeton, New Jersey which reopened on August 11, 2015 at its new location on Witherspoon Street in downtown Princeton. The restaurant originally opened in 2008 on Bayard Lane in Princeton and closed in 2014 while the new location was developed. Development Founder and owner Steven Distler, a semiretired private-equity executive of Bank of Princeton, purchased and renovated the property from an auto-repair garage next to a gas station. Distler hired executive chef Scott Anderson, a Rutgers graduate and former associate of restaurant Nova Terra in New Brunswick. He has never been formally trained, but spent six years at the Ryland Inn, where he became the head chef before that restaurant closed. Business partner Laurent Chapuis, owner of the Princeton Corkscrew Wine Shop, introduced Anderson and Distler. Anderson is currently an equity partner in the restaurant. New American Cuisine
New American cuisine, also known as Modern American cuisine or Contemporary American cuisine, is the wave of modernized cooking predominantly served at upscale fine dining restaurants in the United States, originating in the 1980s. New American cuisine is generally a type of fusion cuisine which assimilates flavors from the melting pot of traditional American cooking techniques mixed with foreign and sometimes molecular gastronomy components. There is often a focus on fresh, local, and seasonal farm-to-table ingredients. James Beard Foundation Award
The James Beard Foundation Awards are annual awards presented by the James Beard Foundation to recognize chefs, restaurateurs, authors and journalists in the United States. They are scheduled around James Beard's May 5 birthday. Smart casual is an ambiguously defined Western dress code that is generally considered casual wear but with smart (in the sense of "well dressed") components of a proper lounge suit from traditional informal wear. For men, this interpretation typically includes dress shirt, necktie, trousers, and dress shoes, possibly worn with an odd-coloured blazer or a sports coat. Smart casual formed as a dress code in the 20th century, originally designating a lounge suit of unconventional colour and less heavy and thus more casual fabric, possibly with more casual cut and details.
