Electoral District Of Yaralla
Yaralla was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales. It was created in 1968, named after Yaralla Estate and largely replaced Concord, extending west to the districts of Parramatta and Granville. It also extended to the north of the Parramatta River, absorbing parts of Eastwood, Parramatta and Ryde It was abolished in 1981 with the area south of the river being absorbed by Electoral district of Burwood and the area north of the river by the re-created district of Ryde. The first member was Lerryn Mutton (Liberal) who had previously unsuccessfully contested Concord. Ryde is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales. It includes the suburbs and localities of Denistone, Denistone East, Denistone West, Macquarie Park, Marsfield, Meadowbank, Melrose Park, Ryde, North Ryde, West Ryde; and parts of Eastwood and Epping. It is currently represented by Victor Dominello of the Liberal Party. History Ryde was created originally in 1894 with the abolition of multi-member districts, from part of Central Cumberland and named after and including Ryde. Garry McIlwaine
Garry David McIlwaine (born 7 October 1944) is a former Australian politician. He was a Labor member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly, representing Yaralla from 1978 to 1981 and Ryde from 1981 to 1988. The son of Charles Victor and Leila Josephine McIlwaine, he was born in Concord West in Sydney. He attended school in the Concord area and studied law part-time at the University of Sydney, completing the course in 1969. In 1970 he was admitted to the New South Wales Bar. He had joined the Labor Party in 1965. In 1978, McIlwaine was selected as the Labor candidate for the marginal Liberal seat of Yaralla, and he defeated the sitting MP, Lerryn Mutton. Yaralla was replaced by Ryde in 1981, which McIlwaine duly won. He held the seat until 1988, when he was defeated by Liberal candidate Michael Photios. Lerryn Mutton
Lerryn William Mutton, (12 October 1924 – 26 July 2015) was an Australian politician. He was the Liberal member for Yaralla in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1968 to 1978. Mutton was born in Concord, the son of Brice Mutton (member for Concord in 1949) and Lilian Taylor. He was educated at North Strathfield Public School and Fort Street Boys High School before working in his father's building business. He served in the RAAF from 1942 to 1946, seeing action as a pilot in Labuan and Borneo. He married Mavis Tucker on 29 October 1949, with whom he had four children. In 1953 he was elected to Concord Council, serving until 1968 (as Mayor from 1961 to 1962). He was also active in the local Liberal Party. In 1968, Mutton was selected as the Liberal candidate for the new seat of Yaralla; he defeated the sitting Labor member for the abolished seat of Concord, Thomas Murphy. The electoral district of Burwood was an electorate for the Victorian Legislative Assembly in Australia. It was located approximately 13 kilometres east of Melbourne, and covered an area of 25 km2. The seat included the suburbs of Ashburton, Ashwood, Box Hill South, Burwood, Chadstone, and parts of Camberwell, Canterbury, Glen Iris, and Surrey Hills. It was created in 1955 as part of the expansion of the Legislative Assembly, and abolished in 1967, replaced by Glen Iris. Burwood was recreated in 1976, replacing Glen Iris. The seat's most notable member was Jeff Kennett, who won the seat on its recreation in 1976 and went on to serve as leader of the Liberal Party from 1982 to 1989 and from 1991 to 1999, and as Premier of Victoria from 1992 to 1999. The New South Wales Legislative Assembly is the lower of the two houses of the Parliament of New South Wales, an Australian state. The upper house is the New South Wales Legislative Council. The Parramatta River is an intermediate tide-dominated, drowned valley estuary located in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. With an average depth of , the Parramatta River is the main tributary of Sydney Harbour, a branch of Port Jackson. Secondary tributaries include the smaller Lane Cove and Duck rivers.
