Waterford is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland. The district is based in the central urban suburbs of Logan City. It is named for the suburb of Waterford and also includes the suburbs of Bethania, Edens Landing, Kingston, Holmview, Loganholme, Loganlea, Meadowbrook, Slacks Creek, Tanah Merah and Waterford West. The electorate was first created for the 1992 election. Shannon Fentiman
Shannon Maree Fentiman is an Australian politician. She has been the Labor member for Waterford in the Queensland Legislative Assembly since 2015 and is the current Queensland Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Women, and the Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence. Fentiman holds a Bachelor of Laws (First class honours) from Queensland University of Technology and Master of Laws from the University of Melbourne. Prior to her election to the Queensland Parliament, Fentiman worked as a solicitor for Hall Payne Lawyers. She has previously worked as an industrial advocate for the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union and as a judge's associate in the Supreme Court of Queensland to Justice Atkinson. Kingston is a town and suburb in the City of Logan, Queensland, Australia. In the , Kingston had a population of 10,539 people. Geography Kingston is a predominantly residential suburb, with a low mix of industrial, commercial and retail areas. The suburb is bounded in the south by Scrubby Creek, a tributary of the Logan River. It is the home of the Kingston Butter Factory. Kingston was also the site of an environmental disaster similar to Love Canal in Niagara Falls in the United States. History The township was named Kingston in 1890 Charles and Harriet Kingston, who were residents of the district in the late nineteenth century. Like a number of other Logan City suburbs Kingston was once part of the Shire of Tingalpa. The Liberal National Party of Queensland (LNP) is a major political party in Queensland, Australia. It was formed in 2008 by a merger of the Queensland divisions of the Liberal Party and the National Party. At a federal level and in most other states, the two parties remain distinct and operate as a Coalition. 2006 Queensland State Election
An election was held in the Australian state of Queensland on 9 September 2006 to elect the 89 members of the state's Legislative Assembly, after being announced by Premier Peter Beattie on 15 August 2006. The election saw the incumbent Labor government led by Premier Peter Beattie defeat the National-Liberal Coalition led by Lawrence Springborg and Bruce Flegg respectively, and gain a fourth consecutive term in office. Beattie thus became the first Labor Premier of Queensland to win four consecutive elections since William Forgan Smith did so in the 1930s. Had Beattie served out his fourth term, he would have become the second-longest serving Queensland Premier, after Sir Joh Bjelke-Petersen. Evan Moorhead
Evan Robert Moorhead (born 19 April 1978) is an Australian political strategist and former politician who served as a member of Queensland Parliament and subsequently as the Secretary of the Labor Party in Queensland. Born in Redcliffe, he received a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws at the University of Queensland before becoming a research officer for the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union. A long-time member of the Australian Labor Party, he has been a delegate to the Young Labor State Conference and the National Conference. On 9 September 2006, he was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Queensland as the member for the seat of Waterford, succeeding Tom Barton, the first Member for Waterford. Thomas Alfred Barton (born 11 August 1949) is an Australian politician. He was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland from 1992 to 2006 as the member for Waterford. Barton was Minister for Environment & Heritage under the Goss government from 1995 to 1996. In the first Beattie government (1998–2001) he was Minister for Police & Corrective Services; under the second Beattie government (2001–2004), Minister for State Development; and Minister for Employment, Training & Industrial Relations in the third Beattie government (2004–2006). 1992 Queensland State Election
Elections were held in the Australian state of Queensland on 19 September 1992 to elect the 89 members of the state's Legislative Assembly. The Labor Party led by Wayne Goss was reelected for a second term with a strong majority government. The election effectively confirmed the status quo, although the ALP lost a small percentage of votes and four seats. Three of those were new seats which were nominally Labor following the redistribution. This was the first election in many decades in which a zonal system of electoral representation did not exist. The previous parliament had legislated for a "one vote one value" electoral redistribution, in which almost all the 89 electoral districts were to have similar numbers of electors (within a 10% margin of the mean). Waterford West, Queensland
Waterford West is a suburb in the City of Logan, Queensland, Australia. In the , Waterford West had a population of 6,431 people. Geography The eastern boundary and part of the southern boundary follow the course of the Logan River. The suburb is home to Marsden State High School in the west. It has a shopping centre called Waterford Plaza close to a road bridge across the Logan. Around this area the main roads, Kingston Road and Loganlea Road intersect. The area currently has some retail development as well as historical significance to Logan City. The centre adjoins a large lagoon known as Tygum Lagoon. Tanah Merah, Queensland
Tanah Merah is a residential suburb in the City of Logan, Queensland, Australia. In the , Tanah Merah had a population of 4,752 people. It was originally named by the Queensland Place Names Board in 1971. Geography The suburb is dominated by a large hill. Red soil is found across the local area. Several parks with paths, exercise equipment and playgrounds are scattered across the sloping, residential landscape. Housing is mostly one storey detached brick houses with many multi-storey homes on the steeper slopes which are afforded views across the river valley. The Pacific Motorway borders the suburb to the east and the Logan Motorway divides it and marks a small portion of the southern border. Slacks Creek is a suburb in the City of Logan, Queensland, Australia. In the , Slacks Creek had a population of 10,432 people. Geography The Pacific Motorway forms most of the eastern boundary of the suburb. The creek that gave its name to the district is part of the Logan River catchment and was named after the Slack family who had a cattle run there before the days of closer settlement. The Aboriginal name for it was Mungaree, place of fishes, which is the name they gave to their property. Meadowbrook, Queensland
Meadowbrook is a mixed-use suburb in the City of Logan, Queensland, Australia. In the , Meadowbrook had a population of 3,113 people. The Logan Hospital and a TAFE college are located in the suburb. Geography The northern and eastern border of the suburb follow Logan River and part of its tributary Slacks Creek.The Gold Coast railway line marks the southern boundary. The Loganlea Golf Course and Logan campus of Griffith University are located in Meadowbrook.
