Tanah Merah is a residential suburb in the City of Logan, Queensland, Australia. In the , Tanah Merah had a population of 4,752 people. It was originally named by the Queensland Place Names Board in 1971. Geography The suburb is dominated by a large hill. Red soil is found across the local area. Several parks with paths, exercise equipment and playgrounds are scattered across the sloping, residential landscape. Housing is mostly one storey detached brick houses with many multi-storey homes on the steeper slopes which are afforded views across the river valley. The Pacific Motorway borders the suburb to the east and the Logan Motorway divides it and marks a small portion of the southern border. Here the slope is flat with houses built up to side of the motorway, hidden behind noise barrier walls. In the north west Slacks Creek joins the Logan River. ''Gossia gonoclada'', known as the square-stemmed or angle-stemmed myrtle for the distinctive four raised corners on the angled branchlets, is a rainforest tree of the family Myrtaceae, native to south-east Queensland, Australia. It is an endangered species. Etymology The genus ''Gossia'' is named after former Queensland Premier, Wayne Goss. The specific epithet ''gonoclada'' means "angle-stemmed". Slacks Creek is a suburb in the City of Logan, Queensland, Australia. In the , Slacks Creek had a population of 10,432 people. Geography The Pacific Motorway forms most of the eastern boundary of the suburb. The creek that gave its name to the district is part of the Logan River catchment and was named after the Slack family who had a cattle run there before the days of closer settlement. The Aboriginal name for it was Mungaree, place of fishes, which is the name they gave to their property. In September 2006 Queensland's first IKEA store moved from its original home in the nearby suburb Rochedale South to its new location in Slacks Creek. The Logan River ( Yugambeh: ''Dugulumba'') is a perennial river located in the Scenic Rim, Logan and Gold Coast local government areas of the South East region of Queensland, Australia. The -long river is one of the dominant waterways in South East Queensland that drains the southern ranges of the Scenic Rim and empties into Moreton Bay after navigating the City of Logan, a major suburban centre located south of Brisbane. Kingston Butter Factory
The Kingston Butter Factory is a community arts centre in Kingston, Queensland, Australia. It is located adjacent to the Kingston railway station. The factory underpinned the local dairying industry for six decades. It is currently closed for redevelopment. Original plans for an innovation hub were scrapped. The new plans include an outdoor staged area capable of holding 5,000 people. A co-operative and historical society has temporarily relocated off-site. History The original building was first constructed in 1907. Construction was undertaken by Waugh and Josephson. The factory also made milk, cottage cheese and baker's cheese. Logan Hyperdome
Logan Hyperdome Shopping Centre in Shailer Park, Queensland, is the largest shopping centre in Logan City and one of the largest single storey shopping centres in Australia. The Queensland Police Service operates a police beat shopfront in the centre. Logan City Council has a library at the far northern end of the Hyperdome and this is a separate, stand alone building. The Logan Hyperdome contains a food court with many outlets. Event Cinemas operate a cinema complex within the centre. Logan Motorway
The M2/M6 Logan Motorway is a 30-kilometre toll road between Ipswich and the M1 or Pacific Motorway at Loganholme, and the Gateway Motorway, providing access to the Gold Coast on the eastern seaboard and to the rural areas of the Darling Downs to the west. The M6 portion runs from the Pacific Motorway to the junction with the Gateway Motorway at Drewvale, where it then becomes the M2, continuing on to merge with the Ipswich Motorway at Gailes. The road is operated and owned by Transurban Queensland. Most of this road was formally Metroad 4 prior to the Gateway Motorway extension in 1997.
