Electoral District Of Seymour
Seymour was an electoral district of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. It covered rural territory north of Melbourne, including the towns of Alexandra, Healesville, Kinglake, Marysville, Seymour and Yea. It was created at the redistribution prior to the 1992 election where it was comfortably won by the Liberal's Marie Tehan who represented the comparable Legislative Council seat of Central Highlands Province from 1987 to 1992. The seat recorded a 6.8% swing to the Labor Party at the 1996 election before being narrowly and surprisingly won by Labor's Ben Hardman due to the anti-Kennett rural backlash at 1999 election. Hardman extended his majority to 9.5% at the 2002 election and was re-elected at the 2006 election, but he was defeated by Liberal candidate Cindy McLeish at the 2010 election. The Victorian Legislative Assembly is the lower house of the bicameral Parliament of Victoria in Australia; the upper house being the Victorian Legislative Council. Ben Hardman
Benedict (Ben) Paul Hardman (born 4 August 1964) is an Australian politician. He was a Australian Labor Party (Victorian Branch), Labor Party member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly from 1999 to 2010, representing the electorate of Electoral district of Seymour, Seymour. Hardman was born in Kiama, New South Wales, Kiama, New South Wales. The 2014 Victorian state election, held on Saturday, 29 November 2014, was for the 58th Parliament of Victoria. All 88 seats in the Victorian Legislative Assembly and 40 seats in the Victorian Legislative Council were up for election. Cindy McLeish
Lucinda Gaye "Cindy" McLeish (born 26 April 1962) is an Australian politician, and has been a member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly since 2010, representing Seymour until 2014 and Eildon thereafter. McLeish was born and raised in Yea, in the north of the electorate, growing up on the family farm. She said her family had been in the area since the early 1840s. Her mother had the Railway Hotel (now the Peppercorn) in Yea for many years. 2006 Victorian State Election
The 2006 Victorian state election, held on Saturday, 25 November 2006, was for the 56th Parliament of Victoria. Just over 3 million Victorians registered to vote elected 88 members to the Legislative Assembly and, for the first time, 40 members to the Legislative Council under a proportional representation system (Single transferable voting). The election was conducted by the independent Victorian Electoral Commission. The Labor Party government of Premier Steve Bracks, first elected in 1999, won a third consecutive term with 55 of the 88 lower house seats, down seven from the 62 Labor won in 2002.
