Electoral District Of Nollamara
Nollamara was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Western Australia. The district is based in the north-eastern suburbs of Perth. It includes the suburbs of Nollamara, Alexander Heights, Koondoola, Mirrabooka, Westminster and part of the suburb of Dianella. Politically, Nollamara is a safe Labor seat. Based on the results of the 2005 state election, the electorate was created with a Labor Party majority of 69.3% to 30.7% versus the Liberal Party. History The existing seat of Dianella was renamed Nollamara ahead of the 1983 state election, when a redistribution removed most of the suburb of Dianella to the neighbouring seat of Mount Lawley. Nollamara is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia. Its Local government areas of Western Australia, local government area is the City of Stirling. 2008 Western Australian State Election
The 2008 Western Australian state election was held on Saturday 6 September 2008 to elect 59 members to the Legislative Assembly and 36 members to the Legislative Council. The incumbent centre-left Labor Party government, in power since the 2001 election and led since 25 January 2006 by Premier Alan Carpenter, was defeated by the centre-right Liberal Party opposition, led by Opposition Leader Colin Barnett since 6 August 2008. The election resulted in a hung parliament with no party gaining a majority. Labor was two seats short of a majority in the expanded legislature. Ultimately, the Liberals were able to form a coalition government with the WA Nationals, supported by three independents. Yokine was a Legislative Assembly electorate in the state of Western Australia from 1996 to 2008. It was named for the northern Perth suburb of Yokine which fell within its borders. The last member for Yokine was Bob Kucera who held the seat for the Labor Party by a margin of 8.2%. The seat was replaced at the 2007 distribution, taking effect at the 2008 election by the new seats of Mount Lawley and Nollamara. Balcatta is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia. Its local government area is the City of Stirling. It is a primarily middle-class suburb made up of mainly Italian, Greek and Macedonian families, as well as many families from other European countries. It is also one of the largest suburbs in the northern part of the Perth metropolitan area. Much of Balcatta is a commercial and industrial area. History Balcatta's name was derived from the Aboriginal words "Bal" meaning "his" and "Katta" meaning "hill". Yokine is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia. Its local government area is the City of Stirling. History The name Yokine was derived from a Nyungar language word meaning " dingo" (which early settlers referred to as the "native dog"). The name was chosen because the area is close to Dog Swamp. Its post code is 6060. Yokine was part of the grant originally allocated to T. R. C. Walters in 1840. Western Australian Golf Limited owned Yokine from at least 1927 and subdivided a small portion of land near the golf course. Before World War II the only house in Yokine was at the eastern end of Royal Street. Morley is a suburb of Perth, within the City of Bayswater local government area, situated approximately northeast of the Perth central business district.
