Electoral District Of Cooper
Cooper is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland. It was created in the 2017 redistribution, and was won at that year's state election by Labor's Kate Jones. It was named after pioneer doctor Lilian Violet Cooper. It largely covers the areas of the abolished electorate of Ashgrove. Located in Northern Brisbane, it consists of the suburbs of Enoggera Reservoir, The Gap, Bardon, Ashgrove, Red Hill, Paddington and Milton. The Division of Cooper is an Divisions of the Australian House of Representatives, Australian Electoral Division in the States and territories of Australia, state of Victoria (Australia), Victoria. It takes in the northern suburbs of Melbourne. The division was contested for the first time at the 2019 Australian federal election, 2019 federal election, with Ged Kearney of the Australian Labor Party (ALP) elected as its inaugural member of parliament. She had previously represented the Division of Batman since the 2018 Batman by-election, 2018 by-election. Kate Jones
Kate Jennifer Jones (born 10 April 1979) is an Australian former politician from Queensland. She served as a Labor Party Member of Parliament in the Legislative Assembly of Queensland from 2006 to 2012, and again from 2015 to 2020. Jones first represented the seat of Ashgrove until she was defeated by eventual Premier Campbell Newman at the 2012 state election. Jones retook the seat for the Labor Party at the 2015 state election. The seat was abolished prior to the 2017 state election, so Jones contested and won the new seat of Cooper at that election. In the Palaszczuk Government, she was the Minister for Innovation and Tourism Industry Development, Minister for State Development and the Minister for the Commonwealth Games. Red Hill is an inner northern suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In the , Red Hill had a population of 5,560 people. Geography Red Hill is by road north-west of the Brisbane CBD. The suburb is very hilly and mainly residential, with shops and small businesses located on Musgrave and Waterworks Roads. History The suburb is one of the oldest in Brisbane. Red Hill is named after its steep hills with red soil and rocks. A Baptist chapel was building in 1874. In 1888, the chapel was replaced by the Windsor Road Baptist Church. Bardon is a western suburb of the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It is located approximately north-west of the Brisbane CBD. Bardon is a leafy residential suburb, much of which nestles into the foothills of Mount Coot-tha. In the , Bardon had a population of 9,500 people. It includes the neighbourhood of Rainworth. The Gap is a north-western suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In the , The Gap had a population of 17,318 people. Geography The Gap is by road north-west of the Brisbane GPO. The Gap was named for its geographical location in the valley between Mount Coot-tha and Enoggera Hill (i.e. '' 'the gap' between hills'') which both form part of the Taylor Range.
