Elections in Belize are the duly held elections held at various levels of government in the nation of Belize. Dissolving elected bodies The Legislature Dissolving the National Assembly of Belize is the prerogative of the Governor General of Belize, currently Dame Froyla Tzalam. General elections were in Belize on 30 October 1974. Belizeans elected 18 members to the House of Representatives. The elections were the first since the country was officially renamed from British Honduras in 1973. The ruling People's United Party (PUP) won the largest share (12) of seats in the elections. Belize District
Belize District is a district of the nation of Belize. Its capital is Belize City. Geography Most of the Belize District is in the east central mainland of Belize; the Belize District also includes various offshore islands, including Ambergris Caye, Caye Caulker, St. George's Caye, Caye Chapel, English Caye, Goff's Caye, and Turneffe Atoll. The governor-general of Belize is the vice-regal representative of the Belizean monarch, currently King Charles III, in Belize. The governor-general is appointed by the monarch on the recommendation of the prime minister of Belize.
