Elbow (band)
Elbow are an English rock band formed in Bury, Greater Manchester, in 1997. The band consists of Guy Garvey (lead vocals, guitar), Craig Potter (keyboard, piano, backing vocals), Mark Potter (guitar, backing vocals) and Pete Turner (bass guitar, backing vocals). They have played together since 1990, adopting the name Elbow in 1997. Drummer Alex Reeves replaced Richard Jupp in 2016. The band have released nine studio albums: ''Asleep in the Back'' (2001), ''Cast of Thousands'' (2003), ''Leaders of the Free World'' (2005), ''The Seldom Seen Kid'' (2008), ''Build a Rocket Boys!'' (2011), ''The Take Off and Landing of Everything'' (2014), ''Little Fictions'' (2017), ''Giants of All Sizes'' (2019) and ''Flying Dream 1'' (2021). Manchester Arena
Manchester Arena, currently referred to as the AO Arena for sponsorship reasons, is an indoor arena in Manchester, England, immediately north of the Manchester city centre, city centre and partly above Manchester Victoria station in air rights space. The arena has the highest seating capacity of any indoor venue in the United Kingdom, and List of indoor arenas in Europe, the second largest in Europe with a capacity of 21,000. Build A Rocket Boys!
''Build a Rocket Boys!'' is the fifth studio album by English rock band Elbow, released on 4 March 2011 in the UK. Coinciding with the UK release, the album was available digitally in the United States on 8 March and released in the physical format on 12 April. It is the follow-up to the highly successful ''The Seldom Seen Kid'', and like its predecessor, was self-produced by the band in Blueprint Studios, Manchester. The album was nominated for the 2011 Mercury Prize. It was supported by the Build a Rocket Boys! Tour. The first single, "Neat Little Rows", was released on 27 February 2011. The song received its first radio airplay on 13 January 2011. The video for the single was produced by The Soup Collective and filmed at Blueprint Studios where the album was recorded. ''The Singing Detective'' is a BBC television serial drama, written by Dennis Potter, starring Michael Gambon and directed by Jon Amiel. Its six episodes are "Skin", "Heat", "Lovely Days", "Clues", "Pitter Patter" and "Who Done It". The serial was broadcast in the United Kingdom on BBC1 in 1986 on Sunday nights from 16 November to 21 December, with later PBS and cable television showings in the United States. Ramsbottom
Ramsbottom is a market town in the Metropolitan Borough of Bury, Greater Manchester, England. The population at the 2011 census was 17,872. Historically in Lancashire, it is on the River Irwell in the West Pennine Moors, northwest of Bury, and of Manchester. Its name is believed to derive from Old English and , meaning 'valley of the ram'. First Steps (Elbow Song)
"First Steps" is a song composed and recorded by Elbow as the BBC's theme for the 2012 Summer Olympics. Production history The BBC invited Elbow to present ideas for the 2012 Olympic theme, on the strength of their 2008 song " One Day Like This", which had been used during the Beijing Olympics and televising of subsequent sporting events. In November 2011 it was announced that the BBC had commissioned Elbow to composing the theme music. The six-minute anthem was recorded with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and the NovaVox gospel choir. The anthemic composition and the accompanying visuals were intended to sum up the achievement of reaching the Olympics, the emotions of those who win and those who do not, and the coming together of the whole country to support the event. The Mercury Prize, formerly called the Mercury Music Prize, is an annual music prize awarded for the best album released in the United Kingdom by a British or Irish act. It was created by Jon Webster and Robert Chandler in association with the British Phonographic Industry and British Association of Record Dealers in 1992 as an alternative to the Brit Awards. The prize was originally sponsored by Mercury Communications, a brand owned by Cable & Wireless, from which the prize gets its name. The Official Charts (legal name: The Official UK Charts Company Limited) is a British inter-professional organization that compiles various "official" record charts in the United Kingdom, Ireland and France. ''Flying Dream 1'' is the ninth studio album by British alternative rock band Elbow. It was released on 19 November 2021, through Polydor Records. Composition and recording ''Flying Dream 1'' was written remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic, with each band member composing music at their homes in Manchester and London and exchanging their ideas online with the other members. The songs were then completed and recorded at the Theatre Royal in Brighton while it was still closed and empty, as a result of the pandemic. Singer Guy Garvey stated that the writing of ''Flying Dreams 1'' had been influenced by "patient, quiet, whole albums" by artists such as Chet Baker, Van Morrison, John Martyn, Kate Bush, PJ Harvey, Talk Talk and the Blue Nile.
