El Mortada Iamrachen
El Mortada Iamrachen (27 February 1987, Al Hoceima, Morocco) (in Riffian: ⵍⵎⵓⵔⵜⴰⴷⴰ ⵉⵄⵎⵔⴰⵛⴰ, in Arabic: المرتضى إعمراشا), also known as Abdallah El Kassimi, is a Moroccan political and social activist who was a member of 2011–2012 Moroccan protests and Hirak Rif Movement (2016/2017). El Mortada Iamrachen was arrested in June 2017, and sentenced in November 2017 to five years of prison, for "praising acts of terrorism" and "inciting others to commit terrorist acts", despite being known as a pro-secularism activist adopting moderate stances. Following this arrest, Human Rights Watch said that Iamrachen's case "may well not be a terrorism case at all, but rather a twisted effort to punish yet another leader of a protest movement that the Moroccan government seems determined to crush". Death Of Mouhcine Fikri
Mouhcine Fikri ( ar, محسن فكري, Tamazight ⵎⵓⵃⵙⵉⵏ ⴼⵉⴽⵔⵉ 'muḥsin fikrī') was a Moroccan fish vendor from Al Hoceima. On October 28, 2016, a police officer confiscated 500 kg of swordfish that he had purchased from Al Hoceima port. When Fikri climbed into the back of a rubbish truck to retrieve the confiscated fish, worth over $11,000, the rubbish crusher mechanism was activated, crushing him to death. A witness is said to have heard the police officers involved order the crusher to be activated, leading to the man's death. Video footage of his death was widely played on social media in Morocco. Outrage led to protests in Al Hoceima, that spread across Morocco. Riffian People
Riffians or Rifians (; singular: , ) are a Berber ethnic group originally from the Rif region of northeastern Morocco (includes the autonomous city of Spain, Melilla). Communities of Riffian immigrants are also found in southern Spain, Netherlands and Belgium as well as elsewhere in Western Europe. They are overwhelmingly Sunni Muslims, but retain their pre-Islamic traditions such as high status for Riffian women. According to Irina Casado i Aijon, Riffians have traditionally organized themselves under "patrilineality and patrilocality principles". The oldest man in the household commands authority and responsibility for decisions, while women jointly care for the young and sick without any discrimination.
