Eistnaflug () is an indoor metal music festival held in Neskaupstaður, Iceland during the second weekend of July. It is a four-day festival with metal, hardcore, punk, rock and indie bands. Name The festival's name means "testicular flight" and is a pun on the name of (" sparks flying"), a family-oriented festival held in Neskaupstaður during the . History The first festival began in August 2005 as a small, one-day party for a few Icelandic bands. In 2017 the number of attendees was 2000–2500. The line up usually consists of 30–40 bands, most of which are Icelandic. Some non-Icelandic bands that have performed at the festival are At The Gates (SE), Napalm Death (UK), Redfang (US), Secrets of The Moon (DE), Triptykon (CHE), (NL) and Cephalic Carnage (US). Neskaupstaður
Neskaupstaður () is a town located on the fjord Norðfjörður on the eastern side of Iceland. It is part of the municipality of Fjarðabyggð and, as of 2016, it has a population of 1,481. Neskaupstaður is the third largest town in Eastern Region. The town was originally built on a farm called "Nes", settled by Egill rauði ("the red"). The town was nicknamed "Little Moscow" in the 20th century due its strong socialist background. History Until 1949, the town was only accessible by boat. Heavy metal (or simply metal) is a genre of rock music that developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s, largely in the United Kingdom and United States. Belphegor is an Austrian blackened death metal band from Salzburg. They originally formed in 1991 under the name Betrayer before changing their name in 1993, deriving their current name from the demon Belphegor. History Early years (1991–1997) Belphegor was founded as Betrayer in 1991 by vocalist and bassist Maxx, guitarists Helmuth and Sigurd, and drummer Chris. The band released their first demo ''Kruzifixion'' in April 1991, and ''Unborn Blood'' later on. Amorphis
Amorphis is a Finnish heavy metal band founded by Jan Rechberger, Tomi Koivusaari, and Esa Holopainen in 1990. Initially, the band was a death metal act, but on later albums they evolved into playing other genres, including progressive metal, and folk metal. They frequently use the ''Kalevala'', the epic poem of Finland, as a source for their lyrics. Rotting Christ is a Greek black metal band formed in 1987. They are noted for being one of the first black metal bands within this region, as well as a premier act within the European underground metal scene. They are also responsible for creating the signature Greek black metal sound prevalent in the early 1990s. History Rotting Christ was founded in 1987 as a grindcore act. Kvelertak () is a Norwegian heavy metal band from Stavanger, formed in 2007. The group comprises vocalist Ivar Nikolaisen, guitarists Vidar Landa, Bjarte Lund Rolland and Maciek Ofstad, bassist Marvin Nygaard and drummer Håvard Takle Ohr. Founding member and lead singer Erlend Hjelvik left the group in 2018, being replaced by Ivar Nikolaisen. Inquisition is an American black metal band that formed in Cali, Colombia in 1988 and later relocated to Seattle, Washington. Enslaved is a Norwegian extreme metal band formed by Ivar Bjørnson and Grutle Kjellson in Haugesund in June 1991. They are currently based in Bergen. The band's lineup has changed many times over the years, and Bjørnson and Kjellson have been the sole constant members. The current lineup also includes lead guitarist Arve Isdal, keyboardist/singer Håkon Vinje, and drummer Iver Sandøy. The band's music draws heavily on the Viking cultural and religious heritage of their home country of Norway for inspiration, and most of the band's lyrics relate to Norse mythology. Carcass are an English extreme metal band from Liverpool, formed in 1985. The band have gone through several line-up changes, leaving guitarist Bill Steer and bassist-vocalist Jeff Walker as the only constant members. Behemoth is a Polish extreme metal band from Gdańsk, formed in 1991. They are considered to have played an important role in establishing the Polish extreme metal underground. Þjóðhátíð
Þjóðhátíð (, "National Festival") is an annual Music festival, outdoor festival held in Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland, on the weekend before the first Monday in August. Locals and guests gather in Herjólfsdalur valley on the island of Heimaey for four days of various events, most prominently big stage concerts, bonfires, fireworks displays and the festival's signature Sunday night crowd singing. The crowd singing is the single event of the weekend which draws the most attendees. In 2010 there was a record attendance of between 16,000 and 17,000 on the Sunday night. The local sports district association Íþróttabandalag Vestmannaeyja, ÍBV (Íþróttabandalag Vestmannaeyja) organises and runs the festival.
