Eion Scarrow
Eion Alexander Scarrow (9 November 1931 – 25 April 2013) was a New Zealand gardening personality, broadcaster and author. Biography Scarrow presented the gardening show ''Dig This'' on New Zealand television from 1972 until 1986, first on regional television in Auckland and then on national network television from 1975. For 30 years he hosted radio gardening shows, and was a prolific author of gardening books, writing over 20 titles. Scarrow died at Te Kauwhata in 2013. Gardening is the practice of growing and cultivating plants as part of horticulture. In gardens, ornamental plants are often grown for their flowers, foliage, or overall appearance; useful plants, such as root vegetables, leaf vegetables, fruits, and herbs, are grown for consumption, for use as dyes, or for medicinal or cosmetic use. Radio Broadcasting
Radio broadcasting is transmission of audio (sound), sometimes with related metadata, by radio waves to radio receivers belonging to a public audience. In terrestrial radio broadcasting the radio waves are broadcast by a land-based radio station, while in satellite radio the radio waves are broadcast by a satellite in Earth orbit. Television In New Zealand
Television in New Zealand was introduced in 1960 as a state-run service. The broadcasting sector was deregulated in 1989, when the Government allowed competition to the state-owned Television New Zealand (TVNZ). There are currently three forms of broadcast television: a terrestrial ( DVB-T) service provided by Freeview; as well as satellite ( DVB-S) and internet streaming (IPTV) services provided nationwide by both Freeview and Sky. The first nationwide digital television service was launched in December 1998 by Sky, who had a monopoly on digital satellite television until the launch of Freeview's nationwide digital satellite service in May 2007. Te Kauwhata
Te Kauwhata is a small town in the north of the Waikato region of New Zealand, situated close to the western shore of Lake Waikare, some 40 km north of Hamilton and approximately 58 km south of Manukau City. Description ''Te Kauwhata'' may translate as "''the empty storehouse''", possibly referring to food storehouses in the original ancient Māori settlement. ''Te Kauwhata'' can also translate as "''the spiritual medium''" or "''the frame''". The original name of the research farm and railway station was Wairangi, changed to Waerenga in 1897. Waerenga means a bush clearing for farming. The name Te Kauwhata was used for the settlement from 1910, Te Kauwhata was surveyed for a township in 1912.
