Einsiedlerhaus
Einsiedlerhaus is a historic building with an adjoint garden which is part of the former town wall of the medieval Switzerland, Swiss town of Rapperswil in the Canton of St. Gallen. Location Situated on the shore of Zürichsee lake, Einsiedlerhaus is the eastern extension of the fortification of a neighbouring Kapuzinerkloster Rapperswil, Capuchin friary (German: ''Kapuzinerkloster'') in the so-called Endingen area, located below the Lindenhof (Rapperswil), Lindenhof hill. The building is separated from the monastery by a tower gate named Endingertor, and also houses one of the rose gardens in Rapperswil. History The building was probably built in the 13th century, or maybe two centuries earlier. The ''Zürichsee'' lakeshore area of ''Endingen'' was given by the Einsiedeln Abbey to the Counts of Rapperswil as a fief—the abbey is still owner of the land, including the area where the 16th-century Capuchin friary was built. The Rapperswil Rose Gardens are privately established small rose gardens probably dating back to the early years of the former independent town of Rapperswil. They are located in the present city of Rapperswil-Jona, Canton of St. Gallen, in Switzerland. History The coat of arms of the House of Rapperswil shows three roses, medieval and present Rapperswil has two roses in its coats of arms, as well as the present municipality of Rapperswil-Jona, and the former independent city and present locality of Jona. Lindenhof in Rapperswil is a moraine hill and a public square being the historic center of Rapperswil, Switzerland. Geography Lindenhof hill (its eastern part is called ''Herrenberg'') dominates the old city of Rapperswil, a locality of the municipality of Rapperswil-Jona in the canton of St. Gallen in Switzerland. Einsiedeln Abbey (german: Kloster Einsiedeln) is a Benedictine Catholic monastery in the village of Einsiedeln in the canton of Schwyz, Switzerland.
