Ein Herz, Das Seinen Jesum Lebend Weiß, BWV 134
(A heart that knows its Jesus is living), 134, is a church cantata for Easter by Johann Sebastian Bach. Bach composed the cantata for the third day of Easter in Leipzig and first performed it on 11 April 1724. He based it on his congratulatory cantata , first performed in Köthen on 1 January 1719. History and words The cantata is Bach's second composition for Easter in Leipzig. On Easter Sunday of 1724, he had performed , from his time in Mühlhausen. On the second day of Easter, , which he had derived from the secular serenata , composed in Köthen in 1718. In a similar way, he arranged a cantata for the New Year's Day of 1719 in Köthen, , for the third day of Easter. The prescribed readings for the feast day were from the Acts of the Apostles, the sermon of Paul in Antioch (), and from the Gospel of Luke, the appearance of Jesus to the Apostles in Jerusalem (). Church Cantata (Bach)
Throughout his life as a musician, Johann Sebastian Bach composed cantatas for both secular and sacred use. His church cantatas are cantatas which he composed for use in the Lutheran church, mainly intended for the occasions of the liturgical year. Bach's ''Nekrolog'' mentions five cantata cycles: "Fünf Jahrgänge von Kirchenstücken, auf alle Sonn- und Festtage" (Five year-cycles of pieces for the church, for all Sundays and feast days), which would amount to at least 275 cantatas, Alfred Dörffel. Christian Friedrich Hunold
Christian Friedrich Hunold (born 29 September 1680 in Wandersleben near Gotha, died 16 August 1721 in Halle) was a German author who wrote under the pseudonym Menantes. Biography Hunold went to school in Arnstadt and continued in 1691 at the ''Gymnasium Illustre Augusteum'' in Weißenfels until 1698. From 1698 until winter 1699/1700 he studied law and languages at the University of Jena. His first novel, ''Die Verliebte und Galante Welt'' (Hamburg: Liebernickel, 1700), was an instant success. The publication of his novel ''Satyrischer Roman'' (Satyrical Novel) in 1706 caused a scandal. Hunold moved to Halle and held private seminars.
