Edwin Viruet
Edwin Viruet (born 20 August 1950 in New York) is a retired professional boxer from Puerto Rico. His brother Adolfo was also a professional boxer. Viruet made his professional debut in 1969. Among his early opponents were Saoul Mamby, a future world light-welterweight champion, against whom he earned a draw; and Alfredo Escalera, a future world super featherweight champion, against whom he won a decision. In 1975, Viruet was matched with Roberto Durán, the reigning world lightweight champion, in a non-title fight. Viruet lost by a unanimous decision. Two years later he fought Durán again, this time with Durán's world title on the line, and again lost a unanimous decision. Adolfo Viruet
Adolfo Viruet (born 29 January 1952 in Hoboken, New Jersey) is a retired Puerto Rican and NABF junior welterweight champion boxer. His brother, Edwin Viruet, was also a professional boxer. Turned professional on October 30, 1969, at age 18, Viruet was a contender in the light welterweight and welterweight divisions during the late 1970s and early 1980s, fighting such opponents as Roberto Durán, Sugar Ray Leonard, Donald Curry, Bruce Curry, Pete Ranzany and Luis Resto. He retired in 1982 with a final record of 23-6-1. Viruet is 16-0-0 (5 KO's) as a Light-Welterweight. Saoul Mamby
Saoul Paul Mamby (June 4, 1947 – December 19, 2019) was an American professional boxer who fought between 1969 and 2008. He held the WBC super lightweight title from 1980 to 1982. Personal Born in South Bronx, New York, Mamby, the child of mother, Victoria, of Spanish descent and father, Robert, from Jamaica, converted to Judaism at age 4. He went to Hebrew School at the Bronx's Mount Horeb Synagogue. Mamby became interested in boxing while on vacation in Jamaica. Alfredo "El Salsero" Escalera (born March 21, 1952) is a Puerto Rican who was a world champion boxer. A native of Carolina, his nickname was "Salsero" because he was a fan of Salsa music. Early boxing career Escalera had his first professional bout on September 4, 1970, against Bob Payzant, in Portland. He won by a knockout in round four. He would suffer his first defeat in his third fight, when faced against Doug McClendon, who beat him by a decision in six rounds on January 26, 1971, in New York.
