Adolfo Viruet
Adolfo Viruet (born 29 January 1952 in Hoboken, New Jersey) is a retired Puerto Rican and NABF junior welterweight champion boxer. His brother, Edwin Viruet, was also a professional boxer. Turned professional on October 30, 1969, at age 18, Viruet was a contender in the light welterweight and welterweight divisions during the late 1970s and early 1980s, fighting such opponents as Roberto Durán, Sugar Ray Leonard, Donald Curry, Bruce Curry, Pete Ranzany and Luis Resto. He retired in 1982 with a final record of 23-6-1. Viruet is 16-0-0 (5 KO's) as a Light-Welterweight. Adolfo had long spurts of inactivity, with no bouts from November 1970 thru April 1972, and only 1 bout in 1974. He had no professional boxing activity because of his broken left hand. Bruce Curry (born March 29, 1956, in Marlin, Texas), is an American former professional boxer. He was the WBC Super Lightweight Champion from 1983 to 1984. Arturo Gatti
Arturo Gatti (April 15, 1972 – July 11, 2009) was an Italian-Canadian professional boxer who competed from 1991 to 2007. A world champion in two weight classes, Gatti held the IBF junior lightweight title from 1995 to 1998, and the WBC super lightweight title from 2004 to 2005. He also participated in '' The Ring'' magazine's Fight of the Year a total of four times (1997, 1998, 2002, and 2003). He announced his retirement on July 14, 2007. After his death in 2009, Gatti was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame on December 10, 2012, in his first year of eligibility, becoming the tenth Canadian boxer to be so inducted. Luis Resto (boxer)
Luis Resto (born June 11, 1955) is a former Puerto Rican boxer from The Bronx, New York, who was convicted of assault and conspiracy for his part in a cheating scandal. A journeyman boxer all his career, Resto was convicted in 1986 and jailed for 2 and a half years, for assault, criminal possession of a weapon and conspiracy. Resto had illegally altered his gloves and replaced the padding with plaster, for a boxing match against Billy Collins Jr. This gave Resto such an unfair advantage that not only did Resto achieve an undeserved win over the better boxer Collins, but injured Collins to such a degree that he never boxed again and later died in an automobile crash. Pete Ranzany (born April 6, 1952 Pete Ronzoni in Sacramento, California) was an amateur boxer who represented the U.S. Army from 1970 to 1973. He defeated future world welterweight champion Carlos Palomino at the 1972 Olympic Trials, but lost to eventual gold medalist Sugar Ray Seales in the finals. A conventional boxer with a solid jab and vicious left hook that Ranzany utilized to the body of his opponents, he was known to take opponents out with one single shot to the liver. His trainer, Joey Lopes—also a one-time fighter in the Sacramento region—was often criticized for protecting Ranzany, thus giving Ranzany the label of a "hometown fighter." Donald Curry
Donald Curry (born September 7, 1961), is an American former professional boxer who competed from 1980 to 1991, and in 1997. He held the WBA world welterweight title from 1983 to 1986, the undisputed world welterweight title from 1985 to 1986 and the WBC light middleweight title from 1988 to 1989, and challenged once for the IBF middleweight title in 1990.
