Edward Waldemar Pahala Tambunan
Edward Wellington Pahala "Tam" Tambunan (popularly misspelled as Edward Waldemar Pahala Tambunan) (14 January 1928 — 17 January 2006) was an Indonesian military figure and politician who became the Governor of North Sumatra from 1978 until 1983. Early life Tambunan was born on 14 January 1928 in the small town of Balige, North Sumatra. He began his education in the ''Hollandsch-Inlandsche School'' (Dutch school for native students), and continued his studies at the Agricultural Junior High School. Military career Tambunan joined the Indonesian Army in 1945, when he became the squad commander in Sidoarjo. The same year, he was promoted as a platoon commander. He moved to Malang, and became a military staff member in the city. In 1946, he moved to Bojonegoro, where he joined TLRI (Sea Army of the Republic of Indonesia, a non-sailor unit inside the Indonesian Navy, similar to marines) from 1946 until 1948. Major General
Major general (abbreviated MG, maj. gen. and similar) is a military rank used in many countries. It is derived from the older rank of sergeant major general. The disappearance of the "sergeant" in the title explains the apparent confusion of a lieutenant general outranking a major general, whereas a major outranks a lieutenant. Darul Islam (Indonesia)
Darul Islam ( meaning '' House of Islam''), also known as Darul Islam/Islamic Armed Forces of Indonesia ( id, Darul Islam/Tentara Islam Indonesia, DI/TII), was an Islamist group that fought for the establishment of an Islamic state in Indonesia. It was established in 1942 by a group of Muslim militias, coordinated by a charismatic radical Muslim politician, Sekarmadji Maridjan Kartosoewirjo. The group recognised only ''Shari'a'' as the valid source of law. The movement has produced splinters and offshoots that range from Jemaah Islamiyah to non-violent religious groups. Darul Islam Rebellion
The Darul Islam rebellion was a war waged between 1949 and 1962 by the Islamic State of Indonesia, commonly known as Darul Islam, to establish an Islamic state in Indonesia. The rebellion began when Sekarmadji Maridjan Kartosuwirjo, a former Indonesian nationalist who refused to recognize the new Republic of Indonesia. Instead, he proclaimed the establishment of the Islamic State of Indonesia on 7 August 1949. Kartosuwirjo led Darul Islam's war against the Indonesian government for 13 years before he was captured by the Indonesian Army in 1962 and executed in 1965. Tuban
Tuban is a town located on the north coast of Java, in Tuban Regency (of which the town is the administrative capital), approximately west of Surabaya, the capital of East Java.
