Edward Sutherland
Albert Edward Sutherland (January 5, 1895 – December 31, 1973) was a film director and actor. Born in London, he was from a theatrical family. His father, Al Sutherland, was a theatre manager and producer and his mother, Julie Ring, was a vaudeville performer. He was a nephew of both Blanche Ring and Thomas Meighan, who was married to Frances Ring, another of his mother's sisters. Sutherland acted in 37 known films early in his career, beginning as a Keystone Cop in '' Tillie's Punctured Romance'' (1914), which starred Charles Chaplin, Mabel Normand, and Marie Dressler. Career Sutherland was directed by Charles Chaplin in ''A Woman of Paris'' (1923), two years before Sutherland began his directing career with the help of Chaplin. Frequently billed as "Eddie Sutherland," he is best known as a director; he directed more than 50 movies between 1925 and 1956. Marjorie Daw (actress)
Marjorie Daw (born Marguerite E. House; January 19, 1902 – March 18, 1979) was an American film actress of the silent film era. She appeared in more than 70 films between 1914 and 1929. Career Born in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Daw was the daughter of John H. House. She took her stage name from '' Marjorie Daw'', a short story by Thomas Bailey Aldrich. Daw began acting as a teen to support her younger brother and herself after the death of their parents. She made her film debut in 1914 and worked steadily during the 1920s. She retired from acting after the advent of sound film. Personal life and death Daw married director Alfred Edward Sutherland on April 20, 1923, in Beverly Hills; They had no children, and they divorced in 1925. ''It's the Old Army Game'' is a 1926 American silent comedy film starring W. C. Fields and Louise Brooks. The film was directed by Eddie Sutherland and co-stars Sutherland's aunt, the stage actress Blanche Ring in one of her few silent film appearances. The film is based on the revue ''The Comic Supplement'' by Joseph P. McEvoy and Fields, and included several skits from Fields' stage plays. ''Mack and Myer for Hire'' is an American sitcom that aired in syndication from 1963 to 1964. The show starred Mickey Deems and Joey Faye, and was produced by Trans-Lux Television in New York. Each episode was approximately 12 minutes long, and the show was filmed using a two-camera layout. Over 100 episodes were produced during its only year in production, and these were re-run well into the 1970s. The series was produced by Sandy Howard and directed by Ted Devlet. Premise Mack and Myer are two handymen, doing jobs for hire. In one episode, they are seen doing things such as building a fence. However, their attempts at getting rich quick usually backfired, resulting in comedy. ''Dixie'' is a 1943 American biographical film of songwriter Daniel Decatur Emmett directed by A. Edward Sutherland and starring Bing Crosby and Dorothy Lamour. Filming in Technicolor, ''Dixie'' was only a moderate success and received mixed reviews. Contrary to rumor, it has not been withdrawn from circulation due to racial issues (Crosby appears in blackface during several musical numbers) but is simply one of hundreds of vintage Paramount Pictures from the 1930s and 1940s now owned by Universal and not actively marketed.
