Edward Lee (cricketer)
Edward Cornwall Lee (18 June 1877 — 16 June 1942) was an English first-class cricketer. As a first-class cricketer, Lee was most active during the late 1890s and at the turn of the 20th-century, playing varsity cricket for Oxford University and county cricket for Hampshire. His first-class career cricket on an infrequent basis to 1909, with Lee making a total of 85 appearances. Varsity and county cricket The son of Edward Arthur Lee, he was born at Torquay in June 1877. Lee was educated at Winchester College, where he represented the college cricket team in two matches against Eton College. Following the conclusion of his final year at Winchester, Lee made his debut in first-class cricket for Hampshire against Yorkshire at Harrogate in the 1896 County Championship. Torquay ( ) is a seaside town in Devon, England, part of the unitary authority area of Torbay. Sir Pelham Francis Warner, (2 October 1873 – 30 January 1963), affectionately and better known as Plum Warner or "the Grand Old Man" of English cricket, was a Test cricketer and cricket administrator. He was knighted for services to sport in the 1937 Coronation Honours. Early life Warner was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad, the youngest of 21 children. His mother, Rosa Cadiz, was a Spanish woman, and his father Charles Warner, was from an English colonial family. 1898 County Championship
The 1898 County Championship was the ninth officially organised running of the County Championship, and ran from 9 May to 3 September 1898. Yorkshire County Cricket Club won their third championship title, with Middlesex finishing as runners-up for the first time. In April, John Tunnicliffe and Jack Brown of Yorkshire, set a then-record partnership for any wicket of 554, against Derbyshire at Queen's Park, Chesterfield. In cricket, a five-wicket haul (also known as a "five–for" or "fifer") occurs when a bowler takes five or more wickets in a single innings. Cambridge University Cricket Club
Cambridge University Cricket Club, first recorded in 1817, is the representative cricket club for students of the University of Cambridge. Depending on the circumstances of each individual match, the club has always been recognised as holding first-class status. The university played List A cricket in 1972 and 1974 only. It has not played top-level Twenty20 cricket. With some 1,200 members, home matches are played at Fenner's. The University Match (cricket)
The University Match in a cricketing context is generally understood to refer to the annual fixture between Oxford University Cricket Club and Cambridge University Cricket Club. From 2001, as part of the reorganisation of first-class cricket, the University Match was changed from a three-day first-class fixture, played at Lord's, to a one-day University Match at Lord's and a four-day first-class fixture played alternately at Fenner's and The Parks. In February, 2022 the MCC announced that from 2023 onwards the one-day fixture would no longer be held Lord's. However in September, 2022, following opposition from a section of its membership, the club decided that the match would be held at Lord's in 2023 to allow time for further consultation.
