Sir Edward George Perera Jayetileke KC was the 29th Chief Justice of Ceylon as well as the 13th Solicitor General. He was appointed in 1950 succeeding Arthur Wijewardena and was Chief Justice until 1952. He was succeeded by Alan Rose. King's Counsel
In the United Kingdom and in some Commonwealth countries, a King's Counsel (post-nominal initials KC) during the reign of a king, or Queen's Counsel (post-nominal initials QC) during the reign of a queen, is a lawyer (usually a barrister or advocate) who is typically a senior trial lawyer. Technically appointed by the monarch of the country to be one of 'His erMajesty's Counsel learned in the law', the position originated in England and Wales. Some Commonwealth countries have either abolished the position, or renamed it so as to remove monarchical connotations, for example, ' Senior counsel' or 'Senior Advocate'. Chief Justice Of Ceylon
The Chief Justice of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka is the head of the judiciary of Sri Lanka and the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka. Established in 1801, the Chief Justice is one of ten Supreme Court justices; the other nine are the Puisne Justices of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka. The post was created in 1801. Henry Monck-Mason Moore
Sir Henry Monck-Mason Moore (18 March 1887 – 26 March 1964) was British Governor of British Sierra Leone, Kenya and Ceylon. The son of Rev. Edward William Moore, he was educated at Rokeby, KCS, Wimbledon and Jesus College, Cambridge, graduating in 1909. In World War I, he was a lieutenant in the Royal Garrison Artillery based in Salonika from 1916 to 1919. He served as Governor of Sierra Leone from 1934 to 1937. As governor of Sierra Leone he undertook surveys of infrastructure. He undertook a campaign that began by successfully "repairing every road and bridge in the area around Port Loko." It was considered one of the most ambitious and successful such efforts in colonial Africa during the era of the Great Depression. Arthur Wijewardena
Sir Edwin Arthur Lewis Wijewardena, King's Counsel, KC (21 March 1887 – 1964) was the 28th Chief Justice of Ceylon. Educated at Ananda College, Ananda College, Colombo and S. Thomas' College, Mount Lavinia, Wijewardena graduated from University of Cambridge and qualified as a barrister. On his return to Ceylon he became an advocate. He took the entrance exam for the Ceylon Civil Service and passed, but was not admitted to failing the medical exam. He served as the Solicitor General of Ceylon, solicitor general of Ceylon from 1936 to 1938 and was appointed King's Counsel. Appointed to the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka, Supreme Court, Wijewardena was appointed Chief Justice in 1949 succeeding the acting Francis Soertsz and was Chief Justice until 1950. Alan Rose
Sir Alan Edward Percival Rose was a British barrister and colonial judge. Early life and education Rose was born in London, the son of author Charles Edward Rose. He was educated at Aldenham School and Trinity College, Cambridge. He served in the 1st Battalion Rifle Brigade of the British Army in World War I. He was called to the bar in 1923. Career Rose served in the Colonial Legal Service from 1929 to 1942 in Fiji, Rhodesia and Palestine. After serving as Solicitor General of British Palestine, Rose became Commissioner in charge of investigating corruption in the Customs Department in 1942 before serving in Ceylon until 1955. He was appointed to the Supreme Court of Ceylon in 1945, served as Legal Secretary in 1946–47 and Attorney General of Ceylon from 1947 to 1951, before being appointed the 30th Chief Justice of Ceylon.
