Edward Howard, 1st Baron Lanerton
Admiral Edward Granville George Howard, 1st Baron Lanerton (23 December 1809 – 8 October 1880), was a British naval commander and politician. Background Howard was the fourth son of George Howard, 6th Earl of Carlisle, and his wife Lady Georgiana Dorothy, daughter of William Cavendish, 5th Duke of Devonshire. George Howard, 7th Earl of Carlisle, was his elder brother. The House of Howard is an English noble house founded by John Howard, who was created Duke of Norfolk (third creation) by King Richard III of England in 1483. However, John was also the eldest grandson (although maternal) of the 1st Duke of the first creation.
