Edward Arthur Austin
Edward Arthur Austin (3 July 1875 – 1 May 1940) was an Australian politician. He was born in Avalon to Sidney Austin and Harriet May Austin, whose brothers Austin Austin and Edwin Austin were also politicians. He went on to attend Geelong Grammar School and became a secretary to a wool buying firm. From 1916 to 1933 he worked as a secretary and bursar at Geelong Grammar School. He was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly as the United Australia Party member for Geelong in 1932, but was defeated in 1935. Avalon, Victoria
Avalon (post code: 3212) is a locality situated north east of Geelong, Victoria. Its local government area is the City of Greater Geelong and its Ward is Windermere. It is located on the northern shore of Corio Bay to the southwest of the state's capital city of Melbourne. Economy Avalon is notable for Avalon Airport, which is the site of the biennial Australian International Airshow, the largest of its kind in the southern hemisphere. Although located on the outskirts of Geelong, the airport effectively operates as a second airport for the much larger city of Melbourne. In 2005, businessman Lindsay Fox launched plans to attract Australia's first Disneyland theme park to the area. Austin Albert Austin (23 November 1855 – 29 July 1925) was an Australian politician. Biography Austin was born in Winchelsea to pioneer grazier Thomas Austin and Elizabeth Phillips Harding. He came from a political family: his brother Edwin Henry Austin, cousin Sidney Austin, nephew Edward Arthur Austin and grandson Thomas Leslie Austin were all members of the Victorian Parliament. He attended Geelong Grammar School and the University of Melbourne before becoming a grazier, mostly around Elaine. On 29 August 1892 he married Winifred Cameron, with whom he had five children. He served on Meredith Shire Council from 1892 to 1893 and Buninyong Shire Council from 1908 to 1911. In 1902 he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly for Grenville, serving until 1904. United Australia Party
The United Australia Party (UAP) was an Australian political party that was founded in 1931 and dissolved in 1945. The party won four federal elections in that time, usually governing in coalition with the Country Party. It provided two prime ministers: Joseph Lyons ( 1932–1939) and Robert Menzies ( 1939–1941). The UAP was created in the aftermath of the 1931 split in the Australian Labor Party. Six fiscally conservative Labor MPs left the party to protest the Scullin Government's financial policies during the Great Depression. Led by Joseph Lyons, a former Premier of Tasmania, the defectors initially sat as independents, but then agreed to merge with the Nationalist Party and form a united opposition. The electoral district of Geelong is an electoral district of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. It centres on inner metropolitan Geelong and following the June 2013 redistribution of electoral boundaries includes the suburbs of Belmont, Breakwater, East Geelong, Geelong, Geelong West, Newtown and South Geelong, Herne Hill, Manifold Heights, Newcomb, Newtown, St Albans Park, Thomson, Whittington and part of Fyansford. The seat first existed from 1856 to 1859 as a four-member seat. It was split into Geelong East and Geelong West in 1859, but re-created in 1876 as a three-member seat. It was cut back to a two-member seat in 1889, and became a single-member seat in 1904. It was abolished in 1976, but re-created in 1985. William Brownbill
William Brownbill (19 January 1864 – 29 April 1938) was an Australian politician. He was a member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly on two occasions from 1920 to 1932, then from 1935 until his death in 1938. He represented the electoral district of Geelong for the Labor Party.
