Edmund McWilliams
Edmund McWilliams (born February 18, 1947) is an American diplomat and previous United States Ambassador to Tajikistan. McWilliams was born in Rhode Island to a father who was a mill worker and a mother who was a cafeteria aide. He majored in Southeast Asian Studies at the University of Rhode Island and joined several conservative groups on campus. After graduating he volunteered for the U.S. Army, learned Vietnamese, and was posted to Saigon as an intelligence officer in 1972, where he specialized in interrogations. U.S. Foreign Service Postings Ed McWilliams entered the U.S. Foreign Service in 1975 and served in Vientiane, Bangkok, Thailand, Moscow, Russia, Kabul, Afghanistan, Islamabad, Managua, Nicaragua. His service in Moscow began in 1983 and ended before 1986, when he was posted to Kabul, Afghanistan. This is a list of Ambassadors of the United States, United States ambassadors to Tajikistan. Until 1991, Tajikistan had been a constituent republic of the Soviet Union as the Tajik Soviet Socialist Republic. On December 25, 1991, following the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Tajikistan declared its independence and became the Republic of Tajikistan. The United States government diplomatic recognition, recognized Tajikistan on the same day. Diplomatic relations were established on February 19, 1992 in an announcement by President Bush. This is a list of ambassadors of the United States to Kyrgyzstan. Until 1991 the Kirghiz Soviet Socialist Republic had been a constituent SSR of the Soviet Union. Upon the breakup of the USSR, the Supreme Soviet of Kyrgyzstan declared itself independent of the Soviet Union on August 31, 1991 and renamed itself the Republic of Kyrgyzstan. The United States recognized Kyrgyzstan on December 26, 1991. An embassy was established in the capital, Bishkek, on February 1, 1992, with Edmund McWilliams as Chargé d'Affaires ''ad interim''. Stanley Tuemler Escudero
Stanley Tuemler Escudero (born March 10, 1942) is an American retired diplomat who served the United States Foreign Service in several capacities. He was the ambassador to Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan throughout the 1990s. Early life and education Escudero was born in Daytona Beach, Florida on March 10, 1942. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Florida in 1965. Career Escudero first came to prominence for his outspoken views on Iran in the 1970s. While serving in the U.S. Embassy in Tehran in the mid 1970s, he questioned the Shah's longevity in power. This challenge to the basic tenets of U.S. policy in the region would probably have ended his career, had the Shah not been overthrown soon afterwards. As the Iranian Revolution unfolded, Escudero was sent back to Iran to gather information on what was happening. The East Timor and Indonesia Action Network (ETAN) is a nonprofit US organization supporting human rights throughout Southeast Asia and Oceania. Dushanbe ( tg, Душанбе, ; ; russian: Душанбе) is the capital and largest city of Tajikistan. , Dushanbe had a population of 863,400 and that population was largely Tajik.
