Edmonton South
Edmonton South was a federal electoral district in Alberta, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1979 to 1988. This riding was created in 1976 from parts of Edmonton West and Pembina ridings. It was abolished in 1987 when it was redistributed into Edmonton Southwest and Edmonton—Strathcona ridings. Alberta
Alberta ( ) is one of the thirteen provinces and territories of Canada. It is part of Western Canada and is one of the three prairie provinces. The House of Commons of Canada (french: Chambre des communes du Canada) is the lower house of the Parliament of Canada. Together with the Crown and the Senate of Canada, they comprise the bicameral legislature of Canada. The House of Commons is a democratically elected body whose members are known as members of Parliament (MPs). Edmonton West
Edmonton West (french: Edmonton-Ouest) is a federal electoral district in Alberta, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1917 to 1988, from 1997 to 2004 and again since 2015. Demographics History and geography This riding was first created in 1914 from Edmonton riding. Originally this was vast rural district including most of the northwestern quadrant of the province of Alberta and a portion of the city of Edmonton, the area north of the river and west of 101st Street. In 1924, it took in parts of the now-abolished Strathcona riding that had been within Edmonton city limits. It took in the southside area lying west of 103rd Street. In 1924 the northern rural sections were also separated to form the ridings of Peace River and Athabasca. In 1933 the more southerly portions became Jasper—Edson. Edmonton—Strathcona
Edmonton Strathcona (formerly known as Edmonton—Strathcona) is a federal electoral district in Alberta, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 1953. It spans the south central part of the city of Edmonton. Edmonton Strathcona was the only federal riding in Alberta not held by the Conservative Party between 2008 and 2015 and 2019 to 2021. Geography The riding is home to most of Edmonton's francophones. Douglas Roche
Douglas James Roche, OC, KCSG (born June 14, 1929) is a Canadian author, parliamentarian, diplomat and peace activist. Roche served as Progressive Conservative Member of Parliament (MP) for Edmonton—Strathcona from 1972 to 1979 and for Edmonton South 1979–1984. In 1984, he was appointed Canada's Ambassador for Disarmament, a position he held until 1989. He was appointed to the Senate of Canada on September 17, 1998, where he served until June 13, 2004. James Stewart Edwards (born August 31, 1936) is a former Canadian politician from Alberta. Early life James Stewart Edwards was born on August 31, 1936 in Edmonton, Alberta to Donald Stewart Edwards and Verna May Armstrong. Edwards attended the University of Alberta attaining a Bachelor of Arts. He married Sheila Mary Mooney on September 10, 1960 and had four children together. Edwards served as the Commissioner of the Alberta Human Rights Commissioner from 1979 to 1980. The Rhinoceros Party (sometimes referred to in English as the Second Rhinoceros Party), officially the Parti Rhinocéros Party, is a Canadian federal-level political party. It was known as neorhino.ca until 2010, when the party changed its name, registering a new party logo. It was created in Montreal on May 21, 2006, and recognized by Elections Canada as being eligible for registration on August 16, 2007, and an official political party on August 23, 2007. Edmonton-South (previously styled Edmonton South) is a provincial electoral district in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The first iteration was used for the 1913 and 1917 provincial elections. The district was re-created again for the 30th Alberta general election. Geography The first iteration of Edmonton South included the part of Edmonton south of the North Saskatchewan River, which had recently been amalgamated into Edmonton.
