Edmonton-Avonmore was a provincial electoral district in Alberta, Canada, mandated to return a single member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta using the first-past-the-post method of voting from 1971 to 1997. History The Edmonton-Avonmore electoral district was created in the 1970 boundary redistribution from portions of Strathcona South. The Edmonton-Avonmore electoral district was abolished in the 1996 boundary redistribution and was combined with a small portion of Edmonton-Gold Bar to form Edmonton-Mill Creek. Edmonton-Mill Creek
Edmonton Mill Creek was a provincial electoral district in Alberta, Canada, mandated to return a single member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta using the first past the post method of voting from 1997 to 2019. History Edmonton-Mill Creek electoral district was created in the 1996 boundary redistribution from the old electoral district of Edmonton-Avonmore and a small part of Edmonton-Gold Bar electoral districts, and named for the Mill Creek Ravine which runs through Edmonton. The 2010 electoral boundary re-distribution saw the riding boundaries shift southwards. The 2003 south boundaries which ended at 23 Avenue were moved further south into Edmonton-Mill Woods and Edmonton-Ellerslie to end at Anthony Henday Drive. The northern boundaries of the riding were also pushed south from 92 Avenue to the Sherwood Park Freeway at its most northern point. List Of Alberta Provincial Electoral Districts
Alberta provincial electoral districts are currently single member ridings that each elect one member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. There are 87 districts fixed in law in Alberta. History The original twenty five districts were drawn up by Liberal Member of Parliament Frank Oliver prior to the first general election of 1905. The original boundaries were widely regarded as being gerrymandered to favour the Alberta Liberal Party, although the Liberal Party did receive the majority of votes in the 1905 election and thus rightly formed majority government. Every boundary redistribution since 1905 has been based on the original boundaries, with districts being split or merged. From 1905 to 1926 with only a few exceptions each district elected a single member on the First Past the Post system. Avonmore, Edmonton
Avonmore is a residential neighbourhood in south east Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. It was named after Algernon William Yelverton, 6th Viscount Avonmore, a priest from Ireland. It is in the shape of an irregular quadrilateral bounded on the south east by Argyll Road, on the south west by Mill Creek Ravine, on the north by 76 Avenue and on the east by 75 Street. It is surrounded by a mixture of residential neighbourhoods and industrial subdivisions. To the north is the residential subdivision of King Edward Park. To the east and south east are the industrial subdivisions of Girard Industrial and Coronet Addition Industrial. Separated from Avonmore by the Mill Creek Ravine are the residential neighbourhoods of Argyll, Hazeldean and Ritchie. Edmonton-Whitemud
Edmonton-Whitemud is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, Canada. In 1989, its constituents unseated the Premier of the day, Donald Getty, by voting for Liberal candidate Percy Wickman. The district was represented by Dave Hancock who was in his fourth term as the Member of the Legislative Assembly. Hancock has also served as Minister of Justice twice, Attorney General and prior to that as Minister of Intergovernmental and Aboriginal Affairs. On December 15, 2006, Hancock was made Minister of Health and Wellness in Premier Ed Stelmach's cabinet. He later served as Deputy Premier under Stelmach's successor Alison Redford. Following Redford's resignation as Premier, Hancock was named as her replacement and sworn into office on March 23, 2014, meaning the Edmonton-Whitemud district was the seat of the Premier of Alberta for the second time. History The Edmonton-Parkallen electoral district was formed in the 1970 boundary redistribution from Strathcona West and a small portion of Strathcona Centre. Edmonton-Strathcona is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, Canada. It shares the same name as the federal electoral district of Edmonton Strathcona. The boundaries of Edmonton-Strathcona include the neighbourhoods of Garneau, Strathcona, Queen Alexandra, Pleasantview, Allendale, Malmo Plains, Empire Park, Bonnie Doon and Idylwylde, and encompasses the historic district of Old Strathcona.
