Edgardo Labella
Edgardo Colina Labella (; May 22, 1951 – November 19, 2021) was a Filipino politician and lawyer who served as the mayor of Cebu City from 2019 until his death in 2021. Prior to becoming mayor, he was the city's vice mayor from 2013 to 2019 and was a member of the Cebu City Council from 1998 to 2001 and again from 2004 to 2013. Before entering politics, he was a lawyer for the Office of the Ombudsman. Early life and education Labella is a native of Barangay Mabolo, Cebu City. His father, Eugene Labella, was a director of Visayan films and had served as regional director in Central Visayas of the Ministry of Public Information. His mother, Esterlina Colina Labella, was an actress. He completed his elementary education at Mabolo Elementary School in 1963 and secondary education in 1967 at the University of the Visayas where he also earned his bachelor's degree in political science in 1971. 2013 Philippine Barangay Elections
Barangay elections were held on Monday, October 28, 2013. The election shall elect the '' Punong Barangay'', more commonly known as barangay captains, and members of the ''Sangguniang Barangay'', or barangay council, in 42,028 barangays throughout the Philippines whose terms start on November 30, 2013. Barangays are the smallest local government unit in the Philippines. Local elections were held in Cebu City on May 13, 2013 within the Philippine general election. Registered voters of the city elected candidates for the following elective local posts: mayor, vice mayor, district representative, and eight councilors at-large for each district. Central Visayas ( ceb, Tunga-tungang Kabisay-an; tl, Gitnang Kabisayaan) is an administrative region in the Philippines, numerically designated as Region VII. Bisayan Languages
The Bisayan languages or Visayan languages are a subgroup of the Austronesian languages spoken in the Philippines. They are most closely related to Tagalog and the Bikol languages, all of which are part of the Central Philippine languages. Most Bisayan languages are spoken in the whole Visayas section of the country, but they are also spoken in the southern part of the Bicol Region (particularly in Masbate and Sorsogon where several dialects of Waray are spoken), islands south of Luzon, such as those that make up Romblon, most of the areas of Mindanao and the province of Sulu located southwest of Mindanao.
