2013 Cebu City Local Elections
Local elections were held in Cebu City on May 13, 2013 within the Philippine general election. Registered voters of the city elected candidates for the following elective local posts: mayor, vice mayor, district representative, and eight councilors at-large for each district. There are two legislative districts in the city. Mayoralty and vice mayoralty elections Mayor Michael Rama ran for his second term as the Mayor of Cebu City under his newly-formed group Team Rama facing off against his former partymate in Bando Osmeña – Pundok Kauswagan (BO–PK), Tomas Osmeña, whom he served with as vice mayor from 2001 to 2010. Rama went on to defeat Osmeña. Vice mayor Joy Augustus Young ran for his second term as the Vice Mayor of Cebu City and was defeated by a slim margin against incumbent Cebu City Councilor for the North District Edgardo Labella, who also left BO–PK to join Rama's group. Independent (politician)
An independent or non-partisan politician is a politician not affiliated with any political party or bureaucratic association. There are numerous reasons why someone may stand for office as an independent. Some politicians have political views that do not align with the platforms of any political party, and therefore choose not to affiliate with them. Some independent politicians may be associated with a party, perhaps as former members of it, or else have views that align with it, but choose not to stand in its name, or are unable to do so because the party in question has selected another candidate. Margot Osmeña
Margarita "Margot" Lim Vargas Osmeña (born July 25, 1949) is a Filipino politician who served as a member of the Cebu City Council from 2010 to 2019. She is married to former mayor of Cebu City Tomas Osmeña. A member of the Vargas Clan of Panay and Negros islands, Osmeña was born in Japan and lived there for one and a half years. She grew up in Manila, where she finished her studies, then moved to the United States where she stayed for eight years. She worked as a banker in both the Philippines and the United States. In 1983, she married Tomas Osmeña, son of former senator Sergio Osmeña Jr. and grandson of former president Sergio Osmeña, and eventually settled in Cebu in 1983. She first ran as a city councilor in the 2010 elections when her husband was term-limited as mayor, and went on to serve for three consecutive terms until 2019. Cebu City's 2nd Congressional District
Cebu City's 2nd congressional district is one of the two congressional districts of the Philippines in the city of Cebu. It has been represented in the House of Representatives of the Philippines since 1987. The district consists of thirty four barangays of the city locally referred to as the "South District". It is currently represented in the 19th Congress by Eduardo Rama Jr. of the PDP-Laban. Rodrigo Abellanosa
Rodrigo "Bebot" Abellana Abellanosa (born December 2, 1961) is a Filipino politician who served as the representative for the 2nd district (south district) of Cebu City from 2013 to 2022. He was a member of the Cebu City Council representing the 2nd district from 2004 to 2013, and was the barangay captain of Duljo Fatima, Cebu City from 1994 to 2004. Early career Abellanosa established the Asian Computer Institute (ACI), the precursor of Asian College of Technology (ACT) on September 19, 1988, in Colon Street, Cebu City. Cebu City's 1st congressional district is one of the two congressional districts of the Philippines in the city of Cebu. It has been represented in the House of Representatives of the Philippines since 1987. The district consists of forty six barangays of the city locally referred to as the "North District". Rachel Marguerite "Cutie" Borromeo del Mar (born November 3, 1966) is a Filipina politician. She served as the representative for the 1st district of Cebu City from 2010 to 2013. Bando Osmeña – Pundok Kauswagan (), commonly known as BO–PK or BOPK, is a local political party based in Cebu City, Philippines. It is a political party run by the Osmeña family of Cebu since 1987 when Tomas Osmeña first ran for mayor of Cebu City. Although not a registered political party with the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), it has been used by Osmeña and his allies since 1998 when he ran with Alvin Garcia as vice mayor.
