Edgar Nash
Edgar Nash (July 8, 1832 – June 6, 1915) was an American businessman and politician. Nash was born in Penn Yan, New York, Penn Yan, Yates County, New York. He lived in Duluth, Minnesota with his wife and family and was involved with the hardware business .Nash served in the United States Army during the Dakota War of 1862. Nash served in the Minnesota House of Representatives in 1872. Nash's father-in-law Riley Bartholomew also served in the Minnesota Legislature. Penn Yan is an incorporated village and the county seat of Yates County, New York, United States. The population was 5,159 at the 2010 census. It lies at the north end of the east branch of Keuka Lake, one of the Finger Lakes. Penn Yan, New York is home to one of the oldest mills in the United States, The Birkett Mills, founded in 1797. The Dakota War of 1862, also known as the Sioux Uprising, the Dakota Uprising, the Sioux Outbreak of 1862, the Dakota Conflict, the U.S.-Dakota War of 1862, or Little Crow's War, was an armed conflict between the United States and several bands of eastern Dakota people, Dakota also known as the Santee Sioux. Riley Bartholomew
Riley Lucas Bartholomew (May 30, 1807 – September 23, 1894) was a Minnesota pioneer and politician who served as state senator from 1859 to 1860. Riley Bartholomew married Fanny A. Watkins in 1829. He became a merchant in Geneva, Ohio, selling clocks and later operating a hotel before the family moved to Jefferson, Ohio, the Ashtabula County seat. In 1848 he was elected sheriff. During his Ohio years Riley joined the state militia, rising through the ranks to the status of general. The Bartholomew family were among the first settlers in 1852 to establish a land claim in Richfield, Minnesota. The Bartholomews, in their mid-forties, determined to move their family and begin a new life in the Northwest. Bartholomew came from stock that did not fear a challenge.
