Edgar C. Whisenant
Edgar C. Whisenant (September 25, 1932 – May 16, 2001) was a former NASA engineer and Bible student who predicted the rapture would occur in 1988, sometime between Sept. 11 and Sept. 13. He published two books about this, ''88 Reasons Why the Rapture Will Be in 1988'' and ''On Borrowed Time''. Eventually, 300,000 copies of ''88 Reasons'' were mailed free of charge to ministers across America, and 4.5 million copies were sold in bookstores and elsewhere. Whisenant was quoted as saying "Only if the Bible is in error am I wrong; and I say that to every preacher in town" and " there were a king in this country and I could gamble with my life, I would stake my life on Rosh Hashana 88." Rapture
The rapture is an Christian eschatology, eschatological position held by some Christians, particularly those of American evangelicalism, consisting of an Eschatology, end-time event when all Christian believers who are alive, along with resurrected believers, will rise "in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air." The origin of the term extends from Paul the Apostle's First Epistle to the Thessalonians in the Bible, in which he uses the Greek word ( grc, ἁρπάζω), meaning "to snatch away" or "to seize," and explains that believers in Jesus in Christianity, Jesus Christ would be snatched away from earth into the air. The idea of a rapture as it is currently defined is not found in historic Christianity, and is a relatively recent doctrine. ''Bibliotheca Sacra'' (colloquially referred to as "BibSac") is a List of theological journals, theological journal published by Dallas Theological Seminary, first published in 1844 and the oldest theological journal in the United States. It was founded at Union Theological Seminary in the City of New York, Union Theological Seminary in 1843, and moved to Andover Theological Seminary (now Andover Newton Theological School) in 1844 after publishing three issues, to Oberlin College in 1884, and to Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, Xenia Seminary in 1922. Rosh HaShanah ( he, רֹאשׁ הַשָּׁנָה, , literally "head of the year") is the Jewish New Year. The biblical name for this holiday is Yom Teruah (, , lit. Unfulfilled Christian Religious Predictions
This article lists unfulfilled Christian religious predictions that failed to come about in the specified time frame, listed by religious group. Adventism, Millerism Adventism has its roots in the teachings of a Baptist preacher by the name of William Miller. He first predicted the Second Advent of Jesus Christ would occur before March 21, 1844. When this date passed, a new date was predicted, April 18, 1844. Again the date passed and another Millerite, Samuel S. Snow, derived the date of October 22, 1844. The non-fulfillment of these predictions has been named the Millerite Great Disappointment. On May 27, 1856, Ellen G. White, prophet of the Seventh-day Adventist church, wrote: "I was shown the company present at the Conference, Said the angel: 'Some food for worms, some subjects of the seven last plagues, some will be alive and remain upon the earth to be translated at the coming of Jesus.'"
