Eden Hindu Hostel
Eden Hindu Hostel ( bn, ইডেন হিন্দু হোস্টেল), established in 1886, was primarily built for Hindu students of Presidency University, Kolkata, India. The hostel is now open for students of all religions. It is now meant for students who come from outside Calcutta to study in the Presidency University, Kolkata. The hostel is located next to Darbhanga Building inside Ashutosh Sikhsha Prangan of the University of Calcutta and stands on Peary Charan Sarkar Street, which separates Presidency University from the premises of the main campus of the University of Calcutta. As of 13 November 2014, this hostel has the capacity to accommodate 275 boarders. Buildings and rooms The building was built out of funds raised by Ashley Eden and the architect was W.B. Presidency University, Kolkata (formerly known as Presidency College, Kolkata) is a second major public state aided research university located in College Street, Kolkata. Considered as one of best colleges when Presidency College was affiliated to University of Calcutta. Established in 1817, it is the oldest college in India (in Asia as well). It was formerly known as Hindu College and then Presidency College and now Presidency University. The institution was elevated to university status in 2010 after functioning as a top constituent college of the University of Calcutta for about 193 years. Satyabrata Mookherjee ( bn, সত্যব্রত মুখার্জী; 8 May 1932 – 3 March 2023) was an Indian Union minister of state and the president of BJP's West Bengal state unit from 2008 before being replaced by Rahul Sinha in October 2009. He was minister of state for Chemicals and Fertilizers (September 2000 – June 2002) and later for Commerce and Industry (July 2002 – October 2003) in Atal Bihari Vajpayee ministry. Pradip Ghosh ( bn, প্রদীপ ঘোষ ) (15 August 1942 – 16 October 2020) was a Bengali elocutionist. His father, elocutionist Chinmoy Jeeban Ghosh ( bn, চিন্ময় জীবন ঘোষ), introduced him to the art of recitation at the age of three. Ghosh was a pioneer, who made recitation widely accepted within the cultural milieu of Bengal during the 1960s. Profession He worked as Joint Director in the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs of Government of West Bengal. Elocution Elocution was passion for Ghosh since his early years. He was one of the pioneers in popularizing elocution and recitation in Bengali. Rajendra Prasad
Rajendra Prasad (3 December 1884 – 28 February 1963) was an Indian politician, lawyer, Indian independence activist, journalist & scholar who served as the first president of Republic of India from 1950 to 1962. He joined the Indian National Congress during the Indian Independence Movement and became a major leader from the region of Bihar and Maharashtra. A supporter of Mahatma Gandhi, Prasad was imprisoned by British authorities during the Salt Satyagraha of 1931 and the Quit India movement of 1942. Binay Majumdar
Binoy Majumdar ( bn, বিনয় মজুমদার) (17 September 1934 – 11 December 2006) was a Bengali poet. Binoy received the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2005. Biography Binoy Majumdar was born in Myanmar (erstwhile Burma) on 17 September 1934. His family later moved to what is now Thakurnagar West Bengal in India. Binoy loved mathematics from his early youth. He completed 'Intermediate' (pre-University) from the Presidency College of the University of Calcutta. Although he graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering graduate from Bengal Engineering College, now renamed Indian Institute of Engineering Science & Technology, Calcutta, in 1957, Binoy turned to poetry later in life.
