Eden Detention Center
Eden Detention Center is a privately owned and operated prison for men located in Eden, Texas, United States. Run by the Corrections Corporation of America, the low-security facility was established in 1985 under a contract with the Federal Bureau of Prisons (FBOP). A large percentage of inmates are composed of illegal migrants from Mexico and other Latin American countries. History Initially, the creation of a privately run prison was seen as a benefit to the town of Eden, bringing in job opportunities and growth. Upon its opening in 1985, it employed 27 people, or 2% of the town's population. Renovations to the prison were made to the center in 1988 to make up for structural insecurities discovered from the initial construction, which lacked appropriate oversight to ensure safety of prisoners. Eden, Texas
Eden is a city in Concho County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,766 at the 2010 census. The community is a rural trading center for agricultural products for the many large ranches and farms in West Texas. History The earliest settlers were the family of Harvey and Louisa McCarty. Frederick Ede and his family moved to the area around 1881. In 1882, Ede donated of land to be used as a townsite and to build a town square. The following year, a post office was established and was named "Eden", an adaptation of Frederick Ede's name. A school was established in 1885. By 1890, Eden had a general store, a jeweler, a saloon, a Baptist church (organized in 1886), and a population exceeding 100. A newspaper, ''The Eden Echo'', was founded in 1906.
