Eddie Kane
Eddie Kane (August 12, 1889 – April 30, 1969) was an American actor who appeared in over 250 productions from 1928 to 1959. Biography Kane was born in St. Louis, Missouri. His early career was in vaudeville as a member of the two-man team of Kane & Herman. Some of his more famous films include ''The Public Enemy'' (1931), ''The Mummy'' (1932), ''Mr. Deeds Goes to Town'' (1936), '' Mr. Smith Goes to Washington'' (1939), ''Meet John Doe'' (1941), ''Yankee Doodle Dandy'' (1942), ''It's a Wonderful Life'' (1946), and ''The Ten Commandments'' (1956). Kane appeared in three Academy Award for Best Picture winners: ''The Broadway Melody'' (1929), ''It Happened One Night'' (1934) and '' You Can't Take It with You'' (1938). Late in his career, Kane made a few appearances on television including the role of Mr. Monahan, Ralph Kramden's Gotham Bus Company boss on ''The Honeymooners''. ''The Stolen Jools'' is a 1931 American pre-Code comedy short produced by the Masquers Club of Hollywood, featuring many cameo appearances by film stars of the day. The stars appeared in the film, distributed by Paramount Pictures, to raise funds for the National Vaudeville Artists Tuberculosis Sanitarium. The UCLA Film and Television Archive entry for this film says—as do the credits—that the film was co-sponsored by Chesterfield cigarettes to support the "fine work" of the NVA sanitarium. When the film was shown in theaters in 1931, a speaker would appear after the film to ask the audience for donations. Being made for charity, the film has an unusually large cast of actors who volunteered to appear gratis. Studios represented included Paramount, Warner Bros., RKO, MGM, and Hal Roach Studios. This film was retitled ''The Slippery Pearls'' in the United Kingdom. In spite of copies being sold by Blackhawk Films throughout the 1970's on 16mm and Super 8 stock the film was ... ''Topper'' is a 1937 American supernatural comedy film directed by Norman Z. McLeod, starring Constance Bennett and Cary Grant and featuring Roland Young.
