Edamala River
Edamalayar or Idamalayar is one of the major tributaries of the Periyar river, the longest river in Kerala state south India. Idamalayar Dam is situated in this river. It originates in the Anamalais of Kerala's Ernakulam district, and flows into Tamil Nadu. It re-enters Kerala near Malakkappara, and flows into the Idamalayar Dam. It joins the Periyar near Kuttampuzha. Periyar River
Periyar, , (meaning: ''big river'') is the longest river and the river with the largest discharge potential in the Indian state of Kerala. It is one of the few perennial rivers in the region and provides drinking water for several major towns. The Periyar is of utmost significance to the economy of Kerala. It generates a significant proportion of Kerala's electrical power via the Idukki Dam and flows along a region of industrial and commercial activity. The river also provides water for irrigation and domestic use throughout its course besides supporting a rich fishery. Due to these reasons, the river has been named the "Lifeline of Kerala". Kochi city, in the vicinity of the river mouth draws its water supply from Aluva, an upstream site sufficiently free of seawater intrusion. Cheruthoni
Cheruthoni () is a town on the banks of Cheruthoni River, a major tributary of the Periyar River, the second longest river in Kerala state, India. The area is known by Cheruthoni Dam, which is a part of Idukki reservoir, which provide hydroelectric power to the region. Location The town is adjacent to the famous Idukki Arch Dam and the Cheruthoni dam. These dams, along with the Kulamavu Dam, form the Idukki Reservoir. Cheruthoni is part of Vazhathope Panchayat, in the Idukki District. Mullayar River is a tributary of the Periyar River, the longest river in Kerala. It originates at Kottamalai peak in the Periyar Tiger Reserve. The Mullayar flows west through the reserve and joins the Periyar at Mullakudy just at the beginning of the Periyar lake formed by the Mullaperiyar dam. Kuttampuzha is a village and gram panchayat in Ernakulam district in the Indian state of Kerala.2001 Village code=00087900 Situated 71km east of Kochi, Kuttampuzha panchayat is home to the 17.7% of total area of the Ernakulam District. The village has a large area under thick forest. There is a significant tribal population in the village (17.2% of total population). This village was part of Idukki district till 1998. Malakkappara or Malakhappara is a small hill station in Thrissur district, in Thrissur district of the state of Kerala, India. This place is situated on the border between Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Anamalai
The Anamala or Anaimalai, also known as the Elephant Mountains, are a range of mountains in the southern Western Ghats of central Kerala ( Idukki district, Ernakulam district, Palakkad district, Thrissur district) and span the border of western Tamil Nadu (Coimbatore district and Tiruppur district) in Southern India. The name ''anamala'' is derived from the Malayalam word ''aana and'' the Tamil word ''aanai'', meaning elephant, or from tribal languages. ''Mala'' or ''Malai'' means 'hill', and thus 'Elephant hill'. Anamudi Peak (8,842 feet (2,695 metres)) lies at the southern end of the range and is the highest peak in southern India. The Palakkad Gap is the mountain pass which divides it from the Nilgiri Mountains. Idamalayar Dam
Idamalayar Dam is a multipurpose concrete gravity dam located at Ennakkal between Ayyampuzha and Bhoothathankettu in Ernakulam district of Kerala on the Idamalayar, a tributary of the Periyar River in Kerala, South India. The dam however extends east as far as Malakkappara. Completed in 1985, with a length of and a height of , the dam created a multipurpose reservoir covering in the scenic hills of the Anamalais. The reservoir storage is utilized by a hydroelectric power station which has an installed capacity of 75 MW with two units of 37.5 MW capacity, producing an annual energy output of 380 GW·h. The large reservoir created by the Idamalayar Dam is operated by the Kerala State Electricity Board to augment its peak power generation requirements. The dam will benefit the Idamalayar Irrigation Development Project by diverting water released from the tail race channel of the Idamalayar power station.
