Ed Ilnicki
Edward Ilnicki (born July 1, 1995) is a former Canadian football running back who played U Sports football and is a Hec Crighton Trophy winner. University career Ilnicki played for the Alberta Golden Bears of U Sports football from 2013 to 2017. He won the Hec Crighton Trophy in 2017 as the best university football player that year. In 2017, he had 196 carries for a Canada West record 1,468 rushing yards along with 11 touchdowns as the Golden Bears qualified for the playoffs for the first time since 2010. Professional football career Ilnicki was drafted in the seventh round, 62nd overall, in the 2017 CFL Draft by the Ottawa Redblacks of the Canadian Football League (CFL). He attended training camp with the team and was released with the final cuts and went back to complete his final year of eligibility at Alberta. A running back (RB) is a member of the offensive backfield in gridiron football. The primary roles of a running back are to receive American football plays#Offensive terminology, handoffs from the quarterback to Rush (American football)#Offense, rush the ball, to line up as a receiver to catch the ball, and Blocking (American football), block. 2017 CFL Draft
The 2017 CFL Draft took place on Sunday May 7, 2017 at 7:00 PM ET on TSN and RDS. 71 players were chosen from among eligible players from Canadian universities, as well as Canadian players playing in the NCAA. The draft was broadcast live on TSN for two hours and then subsequent coverage shifted to digital platforms on TSN.ca and TSN GO. The production was hosted by Farhan Lalji and featured the CFL on TSN panel which included Duane Forde, Chris Schultz, Dave Naylor, and Marshall Ferguson. 2018 Ottawa Redblacks Season
The 2018 Ottawa Redblacks season was the fifth season for the team in the Canadian Football League. The Redblacks improved upon their 8–9–1 record from 2017, winning their ninth game against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in an October 19 game, and finished with an 11–7 record. The team clinched a playoff berth and home playoff game for the fourth season in a row following the Toronto Argonauts' week 17 loss on October 6, 2018. After defeating the Tiger-Cats in the East Final, the Redblacks played in their third Grey Cup championship in four years, but lost to the Calgary Stampeders in the 106th Grey Cup game.
