Ed Barreveld
Ed Barreveld (born 1957 in Rotterdam) is a Canadian documentary film producer based in Toronto who co-founded Storyline Entertainment in 2000 with Daniel Sekulich and Michael Kot. Since 2004 he has been the company's sole principal. Barreveld emigrated to Canada at the age of 23 and began his career in film in 1986, working at the National Film Board of Canada (NFB), eventually becoming studio administrator of the NFB's Ontario Studio in Toronto from 1988 to 1996, before leaving for the private sector. ''The World Before Her'' is a 2012 Canadian documentary film written and directed by Nisha Pahuja and produced by Toronto's Emmy Award winning Storyline Entertainment. The film explores the complex and conflicting environment for young girls in India by profiling two young women participating in two very different types of training camp — Ruhi Singh, who aspires to become Miss India, and Prachi Trivedi, a Hindu nationalist with the Durga Vahini. The film was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Coverage of a Current News Story in 2014. Don Haig
Don Haig (22 July 1933 — 2 March 2002) was a Canadian filmmaker, editor, and producer. His work in film and television spanned nearly five decades. Over the course of his career, he won Academy, Genie, and Gemini awards, and the Governor General's Performing Arts Award. Don was known as the "godfather of Canadian film" for nurturing young talent and producing many award-winning films. He is recognized by some as "the most important person on the Canadian film scene," helping create over 500 films. Career Haig left high school after grade 9 and took a job repairing films at the Winnipeg distribution offices of MGM. In 1956, he moved to Toronto and was hired by the CBC film department, splicing commercials into ''The Ed Sullivan Show''. The Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival is the largest documentary festival in North America. The event takes place annually in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The 27th edition of the festival took place online throughout May and June 2020. In addition to the annual festival, Hot Docs owns and operates the Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema, administers multiple production funds, and runs year-round screening programs including Doc Soup and Hot Docs Showcase. ''Frame 394'' is a Canadian documentary film, directed by Rich Williamson (filmmaker), Rich Williamson and released in 2016. Summary The film centres on Daniel Voshart, a Canadian cinematographer and image stabilization specialist who reviewed the video of the shooting of Walter Scott, and claimed to have discovered evidence in frame 394 of the video "that challenged the accepted narrative of what transpired between Slager and Scott". The frame appears to show Scott's hands on Slager's taser at the time the officer reached for his gun. If true, this could create justification for use of force. The film discusses the moral conflict caused by the discovery, as the original intent was to find evidence that could be used to convict, not acquit the officer.
