Ecuadorian Football Federation
The Ecuadorian Football Federation ( es, Federación Ecuatoriana de Fútbol or ) is the governing body of football in Ecuador. Its headquarters are in Quito, and it organizes the country's various football competitions and oversees the Ecuador national team. History Numerous amateur federations sprouted in the provinces with the largest cities, being Quito, and Guayaquil. Seeking to unify and compete against each federation, the Football Federation was created on May 30, 1925, known as Association of Ecuadorian Football. In 1926, the federation hosted its first organized competition the Riobamba Olimpic, and became FIFA affiliated. In 1927 it formally joined CONMEBOL, but debuted in competition in 1939 in the South American Championship. CONMEBOL
The South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL, , or CSF; es, Confederación Sudamericana de Fútbol; pt, Confederação Sul-Americana de Futebol) is the continental governing body of football in South America (apart from Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana) and it is one of FIFA's six continental confederations. The oldest continental confederation in the world, its headquarters are located in Luque, Paraguay, near Asunción. The Primera Categoría Serie B, shortened to Serie B or Primera B, is a professional football league in Ecuador. It is in the second tier of the Ecuadorian football league system. Currently contested by ten clubs, it operates a system of promotion and relegation with the top-flight Serie A and the bottom-level Segunda Categoría. The Liga Pro Betcris, simply known as the Liga Pro, or the Serie A, is a professional football league in Ecuador. At the top of the Ecuadorian football league system, it is the country's premier football competition. Contested by sixteen clubs, it operates a system of promotion and relegation with the Serie B, the lower level of the Primera Categoría. The season runs from February to December and is usually contested in multiple stages. The main sponsor is Betcris and it is known as Liga Pro Betcris. While initially not a league, the Serie A has its roots in the national championship between the top teams of Ecuador's two regional leagues. The Ecuadorian football league system is a series of interconnected football leagues for clubs in Ecuador, and is governed by the Federación Ecuatoriana de Fútbol at the national level. Structure The Ecuadorian league system consists of two categories, with the top category divided into two series. At the top of the pyramid is ''Primera Categoría, Serie A'' (shorten to ''Primera A''), which consists of the top teams of the country. Below them is ''Primera Categoría, Serie B'' (shorten to ''Primera B''). Teams in the Primera Categoria play independent of the 18 provincial organizations that make up the Segunda Categoria, and independently of each other.
