Eberhard Vogel
Eberhard "Ebse" Vogel (born 8 April 1943) is a former German footballer. Career Vogel played for FC Karl-Marx-Stadt (1961–1970) and FC Carl Zeiss Jena (1970–1982). His 440 appearances for both clubs combined was the record for East German top-flight football. On the national level, he played for the East Germany national team (74 matches/25 goals) and was a participant at the 1974 FIFA World Cup. In 1969, Vogel won the award for the GDR Footballer of the Year. In 1972, he scored the game-winning goal against rival West German national team in the 1972 Summer Olympics. Vogel later began coaching career and led several teams, including 1. FC Magdeburg, Dresdner SC and Togo. Football At The 1972 Summer Olympics
The 1972 Olympic football tournament, held in Munich, Augsburg, Ingolstadt, Nürnberg, Passau, and Regensburg, was played as part of the 1972 Summer Olympics. The tournament features 16 men's national teams from five continental confederations. The 16 teams are drawn into four groups of four and each group plays a round-robin tournament. At the end of the group stage, the top two teams advanced to the second group stage, where the second-placed teams in each group advanced to the bronze medal match while the first-placed teams advanced to the gold medal match held at Olympic Stadium on 10 September 1972. In 2017, the physician of the Soviet team revealed that the match for the bronze medal between the Soviet Union and East Germany was fixed. The 1964–65 DDR-Oberliga was the 16th season of the DDR-Oberliga, the first tier of league football in East Germany. The league was contested by fourteen teams. National People's Army club ASK Vorwärts Berlin won the championship, the club's fourth of six national East German championships all up. Bernd Bauchspieß of BSG Chemie Leipzig was the league's top scorer with 14 goals, becoming the first player to finish as top scorer on three occasions. For the third time the title East German Footballer of the year was awarded, going to Horst Weigang of SC Leipzig. 1963–64 DDR-Oberliga
The 1963–64 DDR-Oberliga was the 15th season of the DDR-Oberliga, the first tier of league football in East Germany. The league was contested by fourteen teams. BSG Chemie Leipzig won the championship, the club's sole national East German championship. Football in Leipzig had been reorganised after the 1962–63 season with the two Oberliga clubs from the city, SC Lokomotive Leipzig and SC Rotation Leipzig, seeing their playing squads merged and then divided up again. The nominally best players were allocated to the new SC Leipzig club, later to become 1. FC Lok Leipzig. The nominally weaker players were allocated to BSG Chemie Leipzig which had its Oberliga place returned it had lost to SC Lokomotive in 1954. The 1962–63 DDR-Oberliga was the 14th season of the DDR-Oberliga, the first tier of league football in East Germany. The league was contested by fourteen teams. SC Motor Jena won the championship, the club's first-ever national East German championship. The club would go on to win two more, then under the name of FC Carl Zeiss Jena. Peter Ducke of SC Motor Jena was the league's top scorer with 19 goals. For the first time the title East German Footballer of the year was awarded, going to Manfred Kaiser of SC Wismut Karl-Marx-Stadt. The DDR-Oberliga (English: ''East German Premier League'' or ''GDR Premier League'') was the top-level association football league in East Germany. The 1961–62 DDR-Oberliga was the 13th season of the DDR-Oberliga, the first tier of league football in East Germany. It was the first season played in the traditional autumn-spring format again after the Oberliga had played for six seasons from 1955 to 1960 in the calendar year format instead, modelled on the system used in the Soviet Union. The UEFA Cup Winners' Cup was a European football club competition contested annually by the winners of domestic cup competitions. The cup was, chronologically, the second seasonal inter-European club competition organised by UEFA. The tournament ran for 39 seasons, with the final edition held in 1998–99, after which it was discontinued. The FDGB-Pokal (Freier Deutscher Gewerkschaftsbund Pokal or Free German Trade Union Federation Cup) was an elimination football tournament held annually in East Germany. It was the second most important national title in East German football after the DDR-Oberliga championship. The founder of the competition was East Germany's major trade union.
