''Easyriders'' is an American motorcycle magazine, founded in 1970. It was published monthly by Paisano Publications for over 50 years. In addition to its coverage of motorcycles (particularly Harley-Davidsons) and related activities, ''Easyriders'' is also known for including pictures of nude or topless women and paintings by David Mann who was a California graphic artist whose paintings celebrated biker culture. David Mann (painter)
David Mann ( — ) was a California graphic artist whose paintings celebrated culture, and choppers. Called "the biker world's artist-in-residence," his images are ubiquitous in biker clubhouses and garages, on motorcycle gas tanks, tattoos, and on T-shirts and other memorabilia associated with biker culture. Choppers have been built based on the bikes first imagined in a David Mann painting. In the words of an anthropologist studying biker culture in New Zealand, "Mann’s paintings set ‘outlaw’ Harley chopper motorcycles against surreal backgrounds, and distorted skylines, colourful images that celebrated the chopper motorcycle and the freedom of the open road ... Lou Kimzey (Sr.) (1928-1997) was the creator and publisher of the biker magazines Easyriders and Iron Horse. Lou Kimzey was inducted into the Sturgis Motorcycle Hall of Fame in August 2009. History In the early 1970s, after his post as Creative Director of Big Bike magazine, Kimzey was the creator and publisher of the gritty biker magazine Easyriders, the first lifestyle biker magazine on the market. ''Iron Horse'', sometimes written ''Ironhorse'', was a motorcycling magazine dedicated to biker culture, published between 1979 and 2011. Originally a spin-off of ''Easyriders'', it was meant to showcase a broader range of bikes than the Harley-Davidson and Indian models that were the focus of its sister publication.
